Tottenham’s Eric Dier or Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic: Who Could Be Jose Mourinho’s Ideal Signing?

Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic? Who should Manchester United sign this summer?

Jose Mourinho failed to take his team to a place in the top-4 come the end of the previous season but he helped them to a place in the Champions League next season, which will now help him attract some of the finest players in Europe to Old Trafford this summer. The manager is desperate to add a top class midfielder to his side and is determined to find someone with Premier League experience.

Two such players linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer are Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic. Both players are expected to cost United roughly around £50m and it is understood that Mourinho is ready to pay up for one of the players. So who is a better option for the Red Devils?

At 28 years of age, Serbian international Nemanja Matic was given his second chance at Chelsea by Jose Mourinho and the midfielder has now helped Chelsea to 2 league titles in the last 3 years. Chelsea are close to landing Tiemoue Bakayoko and are ready to let Matic leave. His experience of working under Mourinho previously might come in handy next season.

Dier, on the other hand, is just 23, and is still to establish himself in the first team for club and country. Versatile and smart, he is a genuine star for the future but is not getting enough support from Mauricio Pochettino, who is also ready to let him leave if United are ready to meet his valuation of £50m.

Nemanja Matic

Both players have been in the Premier League long enough to take no time to settle in at Old Trafford and at the moment, the Tottenham man seems to be a better choice for Man United, mostly because of his age.

At 28, Matic is in his prime as a footballer and his natural defensive instincts are what United need, to get the best out of Paul Pogba in the midfield next season. The Chelsea man can sit back and defend all day long, allowing the French international to weave his magic in the final third. But in a couple of years, United will be back to square one.

Pogba, along with a few other first team regulars are around the 24-year age mark and Dier will fit right in there. He is yet to establish himself at the highest stage but has all it takes to survive even the toughest of the situations. At his age, he could be a long-term solution for Manchester United in the midfield.

Who do you think is a better option for the Red Devils this summer?
