Tottenham would find Trippier’s ideal replacement by signing this gifted 25-year-old Serie A ace – Agreed?

Why Tottenham should sign Elseid Hysaj

According to a report in the Daily Express , Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Napoli’s right-back Elseid Hysaj.

The Albanian didn’t play as much last season under Carlo Ancelotti with Kevin Malcuit preferred instead and this is an opportunity for Spurs to make some important reinforcements.

Kieran Trippier has left the club for Atletico Madrid. The former Burnley right-back made his name at Spurs after four fantastic years and is known for his fantastic delivery from set-pieces and crosses.

Spurs fans will remember him fondly for his performances, especially in the last two years which led to an England call-up and some stunning performances in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino will now have to look to the market for a replacement. Pochettino has always depended a lot on his full-backs to provide the width. He did it when Kyle Walker was at the club and he then switched it a little with Trippier.

Walker was more of marauding right-back with great stamina and could go up and down all day, whereas Trippier was the more technically gifted full-back.

Pochettino has the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier to fall back on, who aren’t bad options to have but perhaps aren’t ready. Aurier is expendable as he’s too much of a defensive liability. Meanwhile, Walker-Peters is one for the future.

He has impressed in the little time that he’s spent at the club but it would be a bit of a gamble to rely too much on the young Englishman.

The Albanian international was a regular under Maurizio Sarri but has been shuffled around a little since then. However, he’s still a fantastic right-back.

Hysaj is only 25 and has a lot of years in him. He’s primarily a good defensive full-back but he did attack a little more under Sarri and would bring balance to Spurs’ defence.

Mauricio Pochettino has made this Spurs side one of the top sides in Europe over the last couple of years but has found it hard to top that with some silverware.

If he wants his side to sustain their form in the last couple of years, he’ll need help in the market. Getting Hysaj would make certain that Spurs are still contending for big honours.
