How tottenham will lineup next season fitting in this Croatian superstar?

Milan-Badelj

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the highly rated Fiorentina midfielder Milan Badelj, who is currently on national duty with the Croatian team at the Euro 2016 in France. Spurs are looking to strengthen their team before they embark on their Champions League campaign and Badelj’s agent Dejan Joksimovic has admitted that a move to England would be difficult for his client to turn down. He has done extremely well in Fionentina’s midfield, helping the club to a fifth place finish in Serie A and his performances have attracted the attention of many top clubs across Europe. Although signing a striker is Mauricio Pochettino top priority, he is also expected to sign a midfielder in coming two months.

Badelj is not an outright attacking midfielder but has managed to slip into the role of the deep-lying playmaker rather effortlessly, from where he loves to dictate the pace of the game. He is a combative player who likes to keep things simple and safe, which allows the other creative players of the team to pull the strings. Although he is a midfielder, he never hides from his defensive duties and is usually seen playing a box-to-box role. His excellent technique and dribbling ability will make him an excellent addition to the Spurs squad.

Scenario 1

Last season Tottenham used Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele in the defensive midfield position. while Dier became a permanent feature in the team after a string of excellent performances, Dembele couldn’t light up the field in the same manner. Especially given the fact that Spurs will need to be a little conservative next season, it’s a good ploy to replace Dembele with Badelj, which would ensure some added protection for the back four. The Croatian equipped with an excellent passing ability, can be useful by spraying the ball forward to the strikers from the back. With the two working in tandem, big teams might have difficulty in breaking down this Spurs side.

Scenario 2

It is very clear Pochettino will need to rotate his squad from time to time given they will be involved in Europe along with the domestic season. Dier was wonderful last season in the heart of that Tottenham team but it remains to be seen whether the 22-year-old can sustain this kind of form for a long time. In such a situation Badelj will provide the perfect cover for the English player whenever he starts to feel the fatigue. Every top team needs a squad with Depth and Badelj will be a perfect squad player who is also a definite improvement from the likes of Mason, Bentaleb and Carroll.

Signing the Croatian from the Italian side could prove to be a major coup for the Argentine manager. He will not only give him a different option if selected in the starting XI but will also provide cover for the likes of Dier and Dembele.
