Tottenham vs Burnley report: Tottenham match report

Tottenham Hotspur demolished Burnley 5-0 at home earlier, with the North Londoners registering their fourth victory in five games under Jose Mourinho.

Having suffered an unimpressive 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the midweek fixture, the pressure was on Tottenham to bounce back and Mourinho’s side responded in a fine manner with a goal-fest for the fans to savour at the weekend.

Mourinho made only a solitary change to the eleven that featured in the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, with Eric Dier replacing Harry Winks to partner Moussa Sissoko in the middle of the park.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to break the deadlock. Harry Kane drove forward unchallenged towards the final third and beat Nick Pope with a fierce drive from distance to open the scoring just four minutes into the game.

Burnley were clearly rocked by that early opener and Lucas Moura made it 2-0 in favour of the hosts inside ten minutes. Heung-min Son ripped the defence apart with some sparkling individual brilliance before forcing a save from Pope. However, the ball popped off Dele Alli and fell kindly at the back post for Moura, who poked the ball into the net.

Sissoko hit the post with his dinked effort and Alli missed a golden opportunity to tee up Son after being denied by a wonderful tackle from James Tarkowski, although it didn’t take long for the Lilywhites to put the game to bed with a third goal.

Son ensured that the fans got their money’s worth with a fine individual goal midway through the first half, picking the ball up near his own area and running through almost the entire length of the pitch all the way into Burnley’s area before curling the ball past an onrushing Pope.

Jay Rodriguez and Robbie Brady came close to pulling one back for the Clarets during the first half but the game looked pretty much done and dusted, with Spurs heading into the interval with an unassailable three-goal lead.

Kane was once again in the thick of things after the restart as the England captain cut inside Tarkowski before blasting a shot high into Pope’s near post to make it 4-0 in the 54th minute.

Having already scored twice in the game, Kane emerged as the provider for the fifth goal, playing a one-two with Sissoko, who got into the box and poked a shot past Pope to complete a sensational victory for the hosts.
