Tottenham opinion: Pochettino signing Yago de Santiago would be a coup

Football.London (h/t Faro de Vigo) has reported that Tottenham are keen on making a move for Yago de Santiago. Tottenham are looking to build a team around the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Davinson Sanchez and a few others. The fact that they haven’t spent any money in the last two windows has hurt them.

No one believed that Tottenham had a chance to grab their first ever Premier League title this season but that does not mean they would carry similar expectations next season.

The fact that they let Mousa Dembele go without a replacement has arguably been Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest mistake as a manager. The Belgian was a key part of Tottenham’s team and letting him go in January has affected the North London side’s title chances.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the club are targeting five players. This includes the likes of Jack Grealish, Carlos Soler and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

While they are targeting experienced stars, the club also needs to add younger players to sort out the future. Someone like Yago de Santiago is exactly what Tottenham need. The midfielder is far from the finished product but he has shown a lot of promise over the last few years.

The teenager is Currently contracted to Celta Vigo. Celta are known for their young stars, with the likes of Rodrigo, Santi Mina, Jonny Castro Iago Aspas, Denis Suarez and even Joselu coming up their ranks.

They have an eye for youth stars and the Spanish side clearly believe that they have something in the 16-year-old.

Tottenham need world-class players but simultaneously need to keep a close watch on their youth teams. Mauricio Pochettino has a great track record with younger players and adding someone as talented as Yago de Santiago would be a massive coup.
