Tottenham signing this world-class South American star would signal the dawn of a new era at the club – opinion

Tottenham Hotspur opinion: Spurs should sign Paulo Dybala

According to a report in The Times, Daniel Levy has promised to help Mauricio Pochettino and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala is a potential target, with Spurs considering his signature.

Spurs were at the end of one of Dybala’s best performances in recent years not so long ago. He scored the crucial winner in their round of 16 Champions League tie in the 2017/18 season.

Dybala had a poor season by his standards after scoring only 5 goals and providing 5 assists in the Serie A last season.

He did score 5 in the Champions League but 3 of those came in a game against Swiss side, Young Boys. Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival might have had something to do with this as Dybala is no longer the focal point of Juventus’ attack.

Dybala has looked good in a more central role, where he can play as the link between the midfield and the attack. However, Ronaldo doesn’t have the legs he once did to play 90 minutes on the wing, which is why Dybala has had to occasionally shift wide.

Spurs will be making a real statement if they were to sign Dybala, as they’d be signing a superstar. Spurs over their history have been known to develop superstars and sell them for a high fee.

Paulo Dybala

Spurs, in recent years, have been able to keep a hold of their best players. That said, Dybala is far too good a player to be warming the bench at Juventus. Juventus have a squad full of quality and it’ll be hard to manage all the egos in the team.

Maurizio Sarri is infamous for not being the most flexible manager and this could be a worrying issue for Dybala.

Dybala will certainly be playing a lot more at Spurs and would excite the crowd to an unimaginable degree. Pochettino has been very flexible with his formations and Dybala would work in plenty of them.

Pochettino, more importantly, asks a lot from his players off the ball and Dybala has always been a willing worker. Their Argentinian background that they both share will definitely be a big factor for Dybala when considering to play for the North London side.

Conclusion

Spurs are at a turning point, having broken their transfer record for one of the most sought after midfielders in Europe in Tanguy Ndombele.

They also have a fantastic new stadium and with Dybala in the bag, they can look at themselves as Premier League and Champions League contenders.
