According to Evening Standard, Tottenham ‘will listen to offers of under £40million for Christian Eriksen’ in January.
Eriksen, 27, is out of contract and will be eligible to leave Spurs for nothing in the summer of 2020. He has already indicated that he will not sign a new contract under manager Jose Mourinho, despite an offer of more than £200,000-a-week on the table for one of the club’s biggest stars.
Eriksen has been an important player for Tottenham over the last few years and the club must replace him if they are willing to cash in during the upcoming transfer window.
Spurs manager Jose Mourinho will need to plan for life without the Danish midfielder. With the winter transfer window set to open in a few weeks’ time, he must think about some targets to replace him.
Back in July, Spanish outlet AS (h/t The Sun) claimed that Tottenham were one of the eight clubs interested in signing Ajax star Donny van de Beek. However, a deal didn’t go through and the midfielder has since stayed put at Ajax.
Donny van de Beek, 22, played a pivotal role in the last term as Ajax won the Eredivisie title and reached the Champions League semi-finals. He scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists for Ajax in 47 games last season. The Netherlands international has hit the ground running in the new campaign, with five goals and four assists already to his name.
Spurs have really struggled in the midfield this term. And with Van de Beek capable of playing anywhere in the middle of the park, they must rekindle their interest in the player next month.
The Dutchman is technically gifted, possesses a wonderful array of passing, and he would offer Spurs something entirely different in the middle of the park. But it is not just his creativity and vision that makes van de Beek a special player.
He is a goalscoring midfielder and would be a good fit for Mourinho’s Tottenham. In the video below, one can get a glimpse of the 22-year-old’s style of play and the qualities he would bring to Spurs.
Van de Beek has proven over the last couple of seasons that he is more than capable of mixing it with the very best in world football. If Tottenham are to sign anyone this January, the Ajax ace would be the best choice to take them to the next level.
