Why Tottenham would be right to sign Bruno Fernandes

According to a report in Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have opened negotiations to sign Sporting Lisbon star midfielder Bruno Fernandes during this transfer window.

Until now, we have witnessed Manchester United tracking the progress of the Portuguese international and they were close to signing him. However, Spurs officials have flown in to Lisbon to try and set up the deal. (h/t Telegraph)

The north London-based club, who have been interested in signing Argentine star Giovani Lo Celso this summer, are not willing to meet Real Betis’ valuation of £68m. (h/t Telegraph)

As per the report, they have now turned their attention towards Fernandes and are hoping to sign him for around £55m. But Sporting have quoted a fee of around £70m to sell the Portugal international. (h/t Telegraph)

Amidst all these money complications, here’s why Spurs would be right to sign Fernandes this summer:

Fernandes could be the long-term creative force in the team

Bruno Fernandes is a high-quality midfielder, who generally likes to play in the number 10 role but is capable of impacting the game while operating in the number eight position or as a winger.

He has improved his game massively over the course of the last 12 months, which is visible by the numbers he produced during the 2018-19 campaign. The Portugal international scored 32 goals and supplied 18 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions for Sporting.

Now, that is some return for a player who is not even playing as a striker in that team. In terms of his attributes, Fernandes is good at making great use of the ball in the final third and is capable of finding key passes.

He is very lethal when it comes to finishing off the chances and his pressing game off the ball is impressive too.

If Tottenham are looking to sign him, they must do it before the transfer deadline. With Christian Eriksen’s long-term future at the club still a question mark (h/t Daily Express), Fernandes could be the creative force in this team for years to come.

Conclusion

Thus, we can conclude by saying that Spurs shouldn’t hesitate in forking out the cash to sign Bruno Fernandes. He would not only improve their team, but make them proper title outsiders for the upcoming season and beyond.
