Tottenham opinion: Should Spurs consider a move for Jack Clarke?

Tottenham have had a strange season. That is despite the fact that the North Londoners are in the Champions League final. While it is a phenomenal achievement for any side, the fact that they collapsed domestically should be a massive concern.

It’s why Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham need to consider adding new players in the summer window.

They need reinforcements and they need to make sure that the club doesn’t endure yet another window without spending any money. Sure, identifying the right players who will fit and only improve the side is a year-long objective.

But buying them can only be done in a space of four months across a season. It’s the way the rules work and it’s why it has come as a big surprise that Tottenham’s last signing was Lucas Moura in the January 2018 window.

That meant that the club went the entire 2018/19 season without spending a single pound in transfer fees. A shocking revelation for a club chasing after the title, and given the way Liverpool and Manchester City spent, it’s why Tottenham have collapsed.

That needs to change but unlike the three sides who finished above them, Spurs cannot spend the same amount of money. That is why their signings have to be bargains or tactically perfect players.

It’s why Jack Clarke needs to join their ranks. The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham are keen on a move for the young Leeds United starlet and have bid £10m.

That means any move for him will see him loaned out either back to Leeds or to any of the million clubs across the world in the near future. But that shouldn’t stop Tottenham from spending the money, especially given the burgeoning talent that the young Jack Clarke has.

A tricky customer, the 18-year-old uses a combination of pace and intelligence to beat opponents. What makes him an exciting prospect is his air of unpredictability combined with innate confidence.

It’s one of the reasons why Clarke finished his season with 22 appearances in the Championship. A run of appearances which saw him contribute to four goals.

Conclusion

Jack Clarke has shown the confidence and the ability to become a player worthy of saying that he’s one for the future. That is what Tottenham needs more than anything and while he won’t make an impact now, he’ll certainly do so in the near future.
