Mauricio Pochettino has done an excellent job since joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2014. He has led Tottenham into the Champions League for three years in a row but the debate around silverware lingers on because their last trophy was the League Cup back in 2008.
Tottenham didn’t spend a single penny in the last two transfer windows and have the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli on the treatment table. Yet, they have managed to keep their Premier League title hopes alive this season. The north Londoners have been digging in to get results of late but Mauricio Pochettino certainly can do better with some new additions in the summer.
Spurs must spend this summer and back Pochettino to keep him away from the clutches of Manchester United. The Argentinean should bring in quality players to make his squad capable of challenging the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
One area Pochettino should upgrade in the summer is the right-back position. Despite starring for England at the World Cup, Kieran Trippier has been nowhere near as impressive in a Spurs shirt this season. Trippier’s deputy, Serge Aurier, continues to make errors and Kyle Walker-Peters isn’t quite ready to hold down the role as first-choice – though he clearly has a very bright future ahead of him.
To put it plainly, Tottenham should target AS Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe in the summer transfer window.
Djibril Sidibe, 26, has endured an injury-plagued campaign as Monaco continue to fight against relegation. The Frenchman has played just 13 Ligue 1 games this season, failing to contribute with neither an assist nor a goal.
If Monaco gets relegated, Tottenham must surely take a punt on the 26-year-old full-back, who will be soon entering the prime years of his career.
A France international, Djibril Sidibe is a versatile and robust player who can play on both sides of the defence. He possesses the pace, power, physicality, stamina and technical abilities to take the Premier League by storm and would be an upgrade on both Trippier and Aurier.
The Frenchman also has solid European experience and he is that sort of player Tottenham should be targeting to win silverware and challenge both domestically and in Europe.
At 26, Sidibe certainly has his best years ahead of him and should make the big move from the Ligue 1 to the Premier League if Tottenham come calling.
