According to a report from Football London, Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Rennes midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud.
The Frenchman, 25, impressed with six goals and five assists last season, helping Rennes win the Coupe De France as well. That has seen him attract a lot of interest from a host of English and Italian clubs.
Tottenham are also said to be in the running for the midfielder’s signature, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
It’s been a busy window so far for Tottenham in comparison to recent years with Daniel Levy finally agreeing to spend big. The club have already smashed their club record to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon, while Jack Clarke also arrived from Leeds United before heading back there on loan.
Mauricio Pochettino has done a tremendous job at Tottenham ever since he has arrived from Southampton. Even after Spurs failed to land a single player in the subsequent two windows, he went on to retain Champions League football and reach the final.
But trophies have eluded Pochettino and co. and if the club are serious in challenging the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premiership, then the Argentinean tactician needs more help in the transfer market.
Tanguy Ndombele has shown in the pre-season what a good player he is and how quickly he has slotted into Pochettino’s system. But Spurs need more bite and creativity from midfield, a player that could ease the burden off the Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli’s shoulders. With that in mind, Tottenham should go all out to sign Benjamin Bourigeaud.
A technically-gifted and tactically versatile player, Bourigeaud is able to play anywhere in midfield. He can be deployed as a defensive, central or even attacking midfielder on occasion or on either of the wings as well.

The 25-year-old is noted for his impressive range of passing, creativity and vision, whilst also bringing a lot of energy and intensity to the engine room.
The Frenchman’s most eye-catching ability is his set-pieces and he is also a big threat with long-range shots, netting two of his six Ligue 1 goals from outside the box last season.
However, the only worry for Tottenham will be that Bourigeaud is already 25 and has not yet played at a higher level than a mid-table Ligue 1 side. But for a fee in the region of €18million, he might just be worth the gamble for Pochettino’s club.
