Tottenham signing this 25-year-old ex-Barcelona star would make them a righteous PL contender next season

Tottenham Opinion: Should Spurs sign Lucas Digne?

According to a report by Football London, Everton full-back Lucas Digne has been tipped to join Tottenham next season, with pundit Danny Mills stating that there is a big chance for the transfer to see its light.

The Frenchman, who had a great season under Marco Silva, is tied with the Toffees until 2023.

Digne – a quality full-back who has had his redemption in the Premier League

The 25-year-old has spent his career playing with elite clubs Roma, Barcelona and PSG so far and yet, he failed to ingrain his name as a credible player for any of the aforementioned clubs.

However, the former Lille star took a turn for the better when he opted to make a  switch to the Premier League last term, showing much promise throughout the season.

In the process, Digne put up some eye-catching displays with 4 goals and 5 assists, eventually nabbing the club’s Player of the Season award.

Why should Spurs make a move for Digne?

Spurs had one of the best-runs in their history last-term, ending as the runners-up in Champions League as well as finishing fourth in Premier League table.

One of the key players during this successful run was Danny Rose, who poured his influence at all cost and made sure whether his side crossed the touch-line at the end of every game.

In the long run, the 28-year-old racked up 5 assists and put up an immaculate display against Ajax in a crucial semi-final, where Spurs overturned the 1-0 deficit.

With Rose being linked with a move away from North London, Mauricio Pochettino is set to miss out a key member in the upcoming season and a proper replacement should be sorted out in due course.

Given this, Digne can be a brilliant addition for the Spurs and can help them in the push towards Premier League title race.

Not only playing a pivotal role for the Toffees, but Digne also turned out as a saviour on several occasions, especially with his late free kicks- a testimony to the fact he won four man of the match awards.

Furthermore, his success at Premier League earned him a call up for France National team in Euro Qualifiers last month.

As far as the previous season is concerned, Digne averaged 2 key passes in the Premier League, which is higher than Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson – another testimony as to why the Frenchman has been crucial behind the Toffees’ eighth-place finish.

Final Verdict

The North London outfit is all set to replicate the same amount of success they had in the previous season.

While Pochettino has ended the long-running transfer drought by splashing on Jack Clarke and Tanguy Ndombele, a move for Digne would be a prolific one as well.
