Tottenham have failed to fill the void left by Mousa Dembele after he left the club in the January transfer window. Victor Wanyama has struggled for game time due to injuries and Moussa Sissoko’s form has always been questionable.
This leaves Pochettino with serious problems in central midfield and Spurs will need quality reinforcements in the summer. One such option is Marseille’s Morgan Sanson.
Sanson has been one of France’s brightest prospects over the years and has impressed every time he has stepped on the pitch. The 24-year-old has appeared 23 times in the Ligue 1 so far and has become a fan favourite at the Orange Vélodrome.
Sanson came through the ranks at Le Mans before making the switch to Montpellier in 2013. After three-and-a-half years with La Paillade, the youngster moved to Marseille in January 2017 and has been a mainstay at the club ever since.
Sanson was initially bought by Montpellier as a No. 10 but his versatility allowed Jean Fernandez to play him everywhere across the midfield. The Frenchman was also deployed on the wings on occasion by Fernandez and Sanson never looked out of his comfort zone.
Sanson’s ability on the ball is exceptional and his cross-field passes remind one of Real Madrid and Spanish legend Xabi Alonso. His composure on the ball under pressure is a true gift and his positional awareness makes him one of the stars on the pitch.
The former Montpellier man’s ability to keep the game moving without lifting the ball off the ground made him thrive alongside Remy Cabella and the duo caused tremendous damage on the pitch.
In a deeper role, Sanson takes on a lot of responsibility as he drives through the midfield before finding a teammate. Regardless of where he plays on the pitch, the 24-year-old has the ability to dictate the game and off the ball, making tremendous runs in between the lines to make himself available for a pass.
As a defensive midfielder this season, Sanson hs averaged 2.3 tackles per game, 1.3 interceptions per game and has drawn 1.6 fouls for his team per 90 minutes. Sanson’s passing game is evident in his stats as he has averaged 52 passes per game with an incredible accuracy of over 85%.
Sanson has also averaged a staggering 3.5 long passes every game this season, a stat which proves his willingness to ping balls from deep. Sanson has 4 goals and 4 assists to his name in all competitions this season, having majorly played in a defensive role.

Morgan Sanson would be a brilliant addition to the Tottenham squad and would be an amazing fit in the centre of the midfield. His ability to play anywhere across the midfield will provide Pochettino with a variety of options and the 24-year-old will thrive under the Spurs boss – similar to this likes of Dele Alli and Harry Winks.
