Tottenham signing this 22-year-old wing wizard would go a long way in helping them fill their trophy cabinet

Tottenham Opinion: Why Spurs should make a move for Arnaut Groeneveld?

According to a report from Voetbal International, Tottenham are interested in signing Club Brugge winger Arnaut Groeneveld this summer. (h/t The Scottish Sun)

Groeneveld, 22, has broken into the Netherlands set up under Ronald Koeman after starring with Belgian side Club Brugge – following his move from Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen last summer. He had an injury-hit debut campaign with Brugge and yet, the speedy winger managed six goals and four assists in 25 games.

The Nigerian-born Dutch star’s performances in Belgium haven’t gone unnoticed, with Tottenham keen to sign him this summer after just a season with Brugge. That being said, should Spurs take a punt on Arnaut Groeneveld?

Without any second thoughts, they must! Spurs’ long transfer market nightmare is finally over as they announced not just one but two transfers on Tuesday — the first by the North London club since signing Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain during the 2018 winter window.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side smashed their transfer record to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon, while Jack Clarke has been immediately loaned back to Leeds United for the 2019/20 term after acquiring his signature.

Despite having one of the best attacking units in the Premier League, Pochettino must add more flair and pace to the wide areas. Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura were fantastic this past campaign but if Tottenham are aiming to win trophies next season, they must have a bigger squad. Thus, the North London club should make a move for Arnaut Groeneveld.

Groeneveld is quite highly rated around Europe and Spurs would be ideal for his further development.

The two-cap Netherlands international is a winger with excellent pace, dribbling skills and movement. He is a decent passer of the ball and has the raw materials to improve on his spatial awareness and reading of the game to become one of the best wingers in the world.

There is a lot of potential in Groeneveld and regardless of his lack of exposure to Europe’s biggest leagues, Tottenham should take a punt on him.

Pochettino is a fantastic manager and has a track record of nurturing young players over the years. The Argentinean tactician would be the ideal man to help the 22-year-old forward unlock his true potential.

Verdict

All in all, a player of Groeneveld’s talent and dynamism can help Tottenham in their quest of winning trophies next season. The 22-year-old is a player Spurs shouldn’t let go of their hands.
