Tottenham shouldn’t hesitate to offload Trippier in a swap deal to sign this versatile 20-goal La Liga ace – Agreed?

Spurs opinion: Spurs should sign Angel Correa

According to a report in the Metro, Angel Correa of Atletico Madrid has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could see Kieran Trippier move to the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Argentine international has been at Atletico Madrid since 2014 and has been a fine squad player for them, having made 130 league appearances in that time.

He was bought in the 2014/15 season after impressing at the Argentinian youth stages and spending  2 years at San Lorenzo. However, he was sidelined in his first season due to a heart tumour. After making a miraculous recovery, he made his debut in the next season.

In his 130 league appearances for Atletico, he’s not made a great impact statistically with 20 goals and 18 assists but he’s honed himself into a complete forward under Diego Simeone. Correa can play in most attacking positions. He can play as a forward, an attacking midfielder and both wings.

He has attributes of Sergio Aguero due to his small frame but also the nastiness and bite that Carlos Tevez had. He would definitely suit Spurs as Mauricio Pochettino demands his attacking players to press at great intensity.

Mauricio Pochettino has shown in his time with the likes of Lucas Moura and others that he can get players with the potential to play to their highest level and Correa at 24 is someone who desperately needs to realize that potential before he hits his peak years as a footballer.

Spurs have already shown a lot of ambition this season by signing the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and getting Correa over the line would help their first-team and add a lot of squad depth to continue competing in all the major competitions.

Harry Kane’s injury woes over the last few seasons and Fernando Llorente’s departure means that they’ll need other attacking players to cover up positions. Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura have the quality and have played forward positions before and Correa could easily fill the positions that they leave vacant.
