Tottenham reviving interest in this classy Ligue 1 winger would allow them to push massive boundaries

Tottenham Opinion: Why should Spurs revive interest in Florian Thauvin?

Tottenham‘s impact in the transfer window really shows that it is always better to be late than never.

Having broken the long-running transfer drought by signing Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke, Mauricio Pochettino and his men are undoubtedly in high spirits for the upcoming season. Not to mention, Spurs are closing in on the capture of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis.

Yet, the Former Espanyol manager should look to improvise the attacking line-up, especially the winger’s position, before the transfer window closes.

The North London outfit relied on Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min the last term and were deprived of enough back-ups.

And it is the right-time for Spurs to rekindle their transfer interest in Marseille winger Florian Thauvin, who was a transfer target last summer. The French international is also on the transfer radar of fellow rivals Arsenal. (The Sun)

How Thauvin could be of service to Spurs?

Thauvin is infamously known for his difficult times with Newcastle United, however, he has retaliated well by building a strong career in the Ligue 1.

The 26-year-old has racked up a total of 59 goals and 37 assists in the past three seasons – a clear resurgence following his exit from the Premier League.

The former Magpies flop can play on either side of the flanks and is also comfortable being an inverted winger. Besides that, he is much synonymous with the attacking midfield role, where he likes to execute his playmaking skills with through balls and decisive passes.

Predominantly left-footed, Thauvin is an excellent dribbler of the ball as he averaged 1.8 dribbles per game last season. He also held an average of 1.4 key passes and 3.1 shots attempted per game. The French ace also possesses great set-piece threat.

Pochettino can’t miss out on Thauvin as his presence will provide him with multiple solutions on the field. With his inclusion, Spurs can invoke a winger-heavy formation, thereby easing the burden off striker Harry Kane as well.

Even if the Argentine manager seeks his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, Thauvin can act either as a central attacking midfielder or as a right-winger/attacking midfielder.

Final Verdict

Spurs need to take care of their attack before heading into the next season. With a player like Thauvin, who has tons of experience in the Ligue 1, Spurs can push their limits in the upcoming season.
