Tottenham opinion: Should Spurs reignite a move for Renato Sanches?

Italian news outlet Calciomercato has reported that Bayern Munich starlet Renato Sanches has revealed that he will leave the Bundesliga giants in the summer. The 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact over the last few seasons for the club, being sent out on a few loan spells.

This includes one to the Premier League with Swansea City, where Sanches flopped. However, despite all that, the 21-year-old still remains one of the most promising youngsters, thanks to his rare blend of attacking and defensive qualities.

It’s why Bayern Munich have kept him around, but a lack of game time and the fact that Renato Sanches has struggled could see him leave. Clearly, the young Portuguese midfielder needs a new start and that should be Tottenham’s chance.

The North London side have previously been linked with a move for the starlet (Independent) and this is their chance to reignite a move. It gives them a chance to add a hugely talented midfielder to their squad and one that needs a change of scenery.

Despite having 23 appearances to his name this season, Sanches has only managed 16 in the Bundesliga with four starts. It shows just how manager Niko Kovac rates the 21-year-old and why a move away would do everyone involved a lot of good.

A lot like Mousa Dembele, Sanches needs that boost of confidence to be able to hit his best. His best just happens to be at a level far better than Moussa Sissoko and has a higher ceiling than Harry Winks.

This should appeal to Tottenham as they have to reinforce their side in the near future, with the club looking to outdo both Manchester City and Liverpool to the title. However, that being said, there is no chance that Renato Sanches alone will lead Tottenham to a league title.

Mauricio Pochettino has a good core at the club but needs the supporting cast. Harry Kane needs a better back-up striker, Kieran Trippier needs to be replaced with a more reliable right-back and finally, Hugo Lloris needs competition for his place.

All this is just the bare minimum that Tottenham have to do, but making a move for Renato Sanches will ease their midfield concerns.

Conclusion

Renato Sanches was and is a player with a lot of potential to grow and become a valuable asset to any team in the world.

For Tottenham, he could be their wildcard and is easily a better choice than their midfield options at the moment. The fact that he is interested in a move away makes it that much easier for the club.
