According to a report in DZ Football, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Nice defender Youcef Atal to make a possible move before the Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Atal played for Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations and he broke his collarbone during the quarter-final clash against Ivory Coast. But the right-back is expected to be back soon.
The 23-year-old was one of the stars for Algeria in that tournament until the injury took place. Club-wise, he plies his trade for French side Nice, a club he joined last summer.
On the other hand, with Spurs selling Kieran Trippier and not buying a replacement yet, they could fall short in that department for the upcoming season. Here’s why they should not hesitate to fork out the cash to sign Atal before the deadline:
Youcef Atal is high-quality right-back, who can also operate on the other side. He can play as a wide midfielder or as a wing-back if required by the team.
During the course of the 18/19 season with Nice, the 23-year-old was used in each of the above-mentioned positions apart from left-back. He appeared in 29 league games, scoriing six goals and supplying one assist.
In terms of his attributes, Atal is an incredibly fast player, who doesn’t seem to break a sweat while making runs up and down the field. He is a good dribbler of the ball and can put dangerous crosses into the box from wide areas.
In addition, he is also a good defender in one-on-one situations while playing as a full-back.
Furthermore, the Algeria international is physically strong on/off the ball, meaning he is not easy to shrug off.
Spurs should really not waste to make him their player before the transfer deadline. Despite the player’s injury, he has the quality to pick up the pace and replace Trippier.
Thus, we can conclude by saying that Mauricio Pochettino’s men must sign Youcef Atal. He would not only be a great option at right-back but would also help them in other areas of the field.
Spurs could well challenge for a top-two finish with him in the squad.
