Tottenham beating Man United to sign this Serie A defensive wall would immensely solidify their defence

Why Tottenham should beat Man United to the signing of Milan Skriniar

Tottenham Hotspur have made their best ever start to a Premier League campaign and what’s surprising is that the club didn’t make a single transfer in the summer, making them the first team to do so in the history of the Premier League.

But Spurs have suffered losses due to a number of injuries to their star performers. The team had to cope with a difficult period but Pochettino has navigated the matters well so far.

However, Pochettino surely has to invest at some point this season and the January transfer window looks like the ideal time. Captain Jan Vertonghen has been out injured for a considerable amount of time and Toby Alderweireld has constantly been linked with an exit as well. Pochettino should definitely take a look at a new central defender.

According to the Sun, Manchester United are interested in making a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. The Slovakian has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe since making the move from Sampdoria last season.

He is now one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, with Manchester City also interested in his services. But Tottenham should definitely beat their competitors and bring in the highly rated defender.

The centre-back is defensively supreme and rarely puts a foot wrong at the back. He loves controlling the backline to keep the momentum going on. A leader at Inter Milan, he would certainly fit the shoes to replace Jan Vertonghen on a long-term basis.

Skriniar is also capable of initiating attacks from the back and that makes him even more enticing. He has averaged a pass success rate of 93.6% in the Serie A this season. The 23-year-old is also very strong in the air, averaging at least 2 successful aerial duels per game. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Though Spurs have to break the bank to bring in a new defender, Mauricio Pochettino should definitely do so given the lack of depth in the squad.

They are in dire need of a new defender, with Vertonghen finding it hard to maintain his fitness and Alderweireld yet to sign a new contract. Spurs should certainly bring in Milan Skriniar.
