Tottenham beating Inter to sign world-class former club hero would turn them into title contenders

Why Tottenham should definitely aim to bring back Luka Modric to the club

Tottenham Hotspur seem to be finding it difficult to cope with the injuries to star players. Spurs resorted against making a single signing in the summer as Mauricio Pochettino decided to stick with his current crop of players.

According to the Daily Mail, Inter Milan are ready to revive their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. The Croatian World Cup finalist has been linked with a move to the Serie A but Tottenham Hotspur should swoop in and aim to bring back the player to the club.

Modric has been a sensation for both club and country over the last few years. In terms of personal success, 2018 proved to be massive for the Blancos midfielder who guided his country to the World Cup final in Russia.

He was also awarded the Golden Ball for playing a key role in Croatia’s journey to the final. Modric was also a part of the Madrid squad that lifted the Champions League on three consecutive occasions.

Luka Modric

The midfielder will definitely remember his roots, spending some quality years at Tottenham Hotspur before eventually making the big move to Spain. The Lilywhites have their own issues at the moment, with midfielder Mousa Dembele linked with an exit from the club (h/t the Sun).

Real Madrid themselves are said to be targeting the player, which means Spurs could try and negotiate a swap deal. During his four years at Tottenham, Modric made a total of 127 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 15 assists. (Stats courtesy – Premier League)

Though his offensive statistics may not be appealing, it’s his underlying work rate that makes him such an enticing player. Modric is technically brilliant. He can pass, shoot and dribble past players with ease. The Croatian is one of the most complete midfielders out there at the moment and is a magician, to say the least.

He has been playing in top form even at the age of 33. Modric averaged a pass success rate of 87% at the World Cup and he also boasts an average of 89% accuracy in the La Liga, and 88% accuracy in the Champions League. He possesses a wide range of passing, which will surely help the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane flourish even further. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Modric is capable of running the show in the midfield and that’s exactly why Mauricio Pochettino should beat Inter Milan to sign him. The arrival of the former star will immediately transform the team into title contenders.
