Top Strikers in EPL: Surprise Striker at the Top as List Does Not Feature Manchester United And Chelsea Stars

One player made headlines in the last game week by scoring 5 goals in one game, just like Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero did his best by scoring 5 times against Newcastle for Manchester City. The Argentine was lethal and shot up the list of Premier League goalscorers this season, but he isn’t the one with the most number of goals this season.

Thanks to Squawka.com we look at the top strikers with the most goals this season and see where the Argentine actually ranks in terms of overall performance, sure he scored but who are the other strikers doing their bit for their respective teams?

An Englishman leading the way

With all the talent available in the Premier League, it might be a bit of a surprise to see an Englishman leading the Premier League scoring charts but that is the reality. It isn’t Wayne Rooney, who is leading the charts but the player who has had a meteoric rise in his career, Jamie Vardy. The Leicester City forward has scored seven times in eight games.

The striker’s seven goals have come from both his feet with four from his right foot and two from his left. The best stat about all this is that all his goals have come from within the penalty box.

Aguero comes second in the list with six goals, but five of them came in one unbelievable performance against Newcastle. The Argentine is also a bit of a two-footed striker with three goals from his right foot and two from his left. He also seems to have a knack of finishing outside the box with two goals from outside while four came from within the penalty box.

There can never be a list of the top strikers without Alexis Sanchez, although he isn’t always deployed as an out-and-out striker, he does make the list with five goals and surprisingly four goals out of five have come from outside the box. And he seems to be a little one footed with four of his goals coming from his trusted right foot.

Graziano Pelle still continues to be around the top of the league with his five goals for Southampton and the second season syndrome has not hit the Italian, he did have a big role to play in the win over Chelsea as well and will be expected to add a few more goals to his tally before the season ends.

Callum Wilson’s season might have come to a halt due to his injury, but he was leading the charts with five goals from just seven games and he seems to be a great fox in the box with all his five goals coming within the penalty box and with his right foot.

Anthony Martial
Martial does not feature in the list

The other players with five goals in the league are Romelu Lukaku and Odion Ighalo of Watford who both seem to be firing on all cylinders. Aguero might have scored five in one game, but his goals haven’t been spread around like the goals for the rest of the players, though if he hits top gear in almost every game, you can be sure he wins the golden boot again.
