Top-class Bernardo, Fantastic Sane – The best and the worst rated Manchester City stars vs Chelsea

Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea: Bernardo Silva Strike Hands 3 Points To The Cityzens

Manchester City completed an emphatic victory over Chelsea to inch closer to Premier League glory. The win would go down as one of the most one-sided affairs ever as it was a dreadful display from a side of Chelsea’s quality.

The only goal of the game was scored by Bernardo Silva, who broke the deadlock just 35 seconds after the start of the second half. Right from the first glance, they dominated and the likes of Sane, David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne got on to the ball and enjoyed major shares of it. They barely allowed Chelsea to scuff the grass of their own half and understandably, Ederson didn’t face a single shot on target.

In the prepotent yet neutralised display, the Cityzens got their chance through Bernardo in the first half, where he almost curled one in from the edge of the box. Leroy Sané shifted the ball to his right on one occasion and beat Courtois but was denied by a goalline clearance from Azpilicueta, who was Chelsea’s best defender by some distance. While the home side threaded 975 passes, Chelsea struggled to make use of anything. Pep’s side is just four wins away from the title.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson: 8/10

One of the quietest games of the season for him. Even when he went about to pick a pass, no Chelsea player applied threatening pressure.

Kyle Walker: 7/10

What a prolific sprinter he is! Walker ran up and down the pitch, supported the play and was safe with the ball. He misplaced three passes in the second half but got away with them. Faded in the dying stages.

Nicolas Otamendi: 8/10

Just twice, only twice was he called upon to cut out the minimal danger.

Aymeric Laporte: 8/10

Laporte chipped in with a couple of clearances and as usual, was calm and sublime with his passing.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: 8.5/10

Easy on the ball, easy on the eye. The youngster passed the ball around well, played a major role in City’s high press system and won the ball back convincingly.

Ilkay Gundogan: 8/10

181 touches in the game. Bossed the midfield, kept hold of the ball and effortlessly moved it around.

Kevin De Bruyne: 8.5/10

Not the most incisive by his standards, but De Bruyne in third gear proved to be enough to beat a hapless Blues side.

David Silva: 8.5/10

Silva was magical as ever. He dovetailed the play together and brought all his teammates together, with his pin-point passing.

Bernardo Silva: 9.5/10

Bernardo was silky smooth on the ball. He cut inside, found empty spaces, interchanged passes with Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, took a couple of shots and was at the right place for the goal.

Leroy Sané: 9/10

The only player who looked like breaking through the jam-packed back line of the opponent. He made one daunting run, where he beat almost seven players. Otherwise, Sane tested Courtois more than once, stretched the Chelsea defence and kept Moses busy and embarrassed at times.

Sergio Agüero: 8/10

Got past players, helped Sane and Bernardo, and was highly involved in the build-up play. Kun Agüero put 101% effort into this one, much like his other performances.
