Top 5 Young Stars Of The Championship Season So Far

When it comes to football transfers, price tags have truly skyrocketed over the years. As days go by, the bar only seems to be rising as Premier League clubs scramble to sign players from different leagues. However, the Championship, at present, seems to be bustling with fresh homegrown talent and there have been some players who have truly managed to make a mark for themselves this season. With that in mind, here are 5 young stars in the Championship, who have managed to impress everyone.

Ryan Sessegnon – Fulham

Sessegnon is such a brilliant, versatile player with so much of potential. He is the epitome of a modern-day full-back and the way in which he bursts up and down the left flank to do his defensive duties and score goals is truly commendable. Although it seems like he is more suited to playing as an attacking winger, Sessegnon is undoubtedly one of the most promising stars in England. He has rightfully attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs and it remains to be seen if Fulham hold on to him in the summer.

Ollie Watkins – Brentford

At 22 years of age, Watkins is one of Brentford’s key players. Having scored 8 goals and provided 3 assists so far, the midfielder has been in spectacular form for the club. In fact, his versatility is probably his biggest strength. Throughout the season so far, Watkins has played in a variety of different attacking positions for Brentford and he has excelled at all of them. The fact that he has picked up 6 Man of the Match awards until now is a strong testament to his skills.

Ruben Neves – Wolverhampton Wanderers

Neves is arguably the best young star in the Championship right now. He played a starring role for Porto and he even captained them in the Champions League prior to joining the Wolves. The 20-year-old has managed to put in some classy performances and has risen above the usual hustle-bustle in the league. He often sets the tempo for the Wolves up front while chipping in with a goal or an assist on most occasions. Neves can only go forward from here on and it will be interesting to see how far he goes.

James Maddison – Norwich City

Although Norwich have been underwhelming under Daniel Farke this season, Maddison has been in sublime form for the Canaries. A central midfielder by trade, the young star has chipped in with 8 goals and 5 assists so far. In fact, Norwich have relied mainly on Maddison for their goals and creativity up front. He has been in excellent form. The highlight of his season so far has to be the sensational winner he scored against Ipswich back in October.

David Brooks – Sheffield United

Brooks may not be a regular starter but he has come on and made an impact off the bench on multiple occasions for Sheffield United this season. He mostly plays either in the midfield or as an attacker and he has done quite well on both fronts. Brooks was particularly impressive in United’s match against Leeds last October and the 20-year-old seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. It is not easy to be an impact sub and yet Brooks makes it looks so effortless.
