The Premier League is the richest competition in European football and it did not come as a surprise that clubs in the top flight in England spent more than £1billion on incoming transfers last summer. With inflation hitting hard, the clubs are expected to break that record with ease this summer and they are almost there with some of the biggest clubs, making some world record signings.

Romelu Lukaku (Everton to Manchester United – £75m)
The Belgian midfielder was the second highest goal scorer in England last season and has been one of the most consistent goal scorers in the top flight for more than a couple of seasons now. He decided to quit Everton in search of regular Champions League football and was also wanted by Antonio Conte’s Chelsea but Mourinho managed to use his pull to secure his services in what could turn out to be a brilliant deal over a period of time.
Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester City – £50m)
The English full-back is the first choice right back for his country but he was unsettled at the White Hart Lane last season and was linked with an exit ever since the end of the 2016/17 campaign. A couple of English clubs were interested in his signature but Manchester United were desperate to add him to their ranks and have finally spent £50m on his services, making him the most expensive defender in the history of the game.
Alexandre Lacazette (AS Lyon to Arsenal – £52.7m)
Arsenal failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League but that has not stopped them from procuring the services of their long term transfer target Alexandre Lacazette, who decided to quit Lyon this summer, in search of a new challenge. He was wanted by Liverpool as well but Lacazette, who was scouted by Arsenal for more than a year, decided to sign for the Gunners, in what stands as the most expensive transfer in the history of the London club.
Bernardo Silva (AS Monaco to Manchester City – £43m)
One of the first transfers that was completed after the end of the previous season was Manchester City’s acquiring of Portuguese winger Bernardo Silva. After helping French outfit AS Monaco to a league title, Silva decided to quit the club immediately and was lured by Pep Guardiola to the Etihad, where he is expected to be a regular starter. This is going to be his first season in England and the Spanish manager will hope that Silva has what it takes to lift the club to glory.
Mohamed Salah (AS Roma to Liverpool – £36.9m)
Finally, Liverpool’s never ending saga of Mohamed Salah was completed a couple of weeks ago after it was announced that Italian outfit AS Roma have agreed to sell the player for £36.9million. Liverpool were reluctant to meet his asking price but they lack a genuine winger in their side other than Sadio Mane and Klopp decided to break the bank for Salah, who could potentially turn out to be a world-class arrival at Anfield after many years.
