Top 5 Premier League Golden Boot Contenders

Robin Van Perise claimed the Golden Boot last season scoring 26 goals and giving his team their 20th Premier League title in the process. But the number of contenders has gone on to increase this season by a bulk and at the end of it anyone may walk away with the prize. We take a look at some of the players who have all the capabilities to win the Golden Boot this season.

Luis Suarez- (If he stays at Anfield, which certainly looks like the case). Although he will play a few matches less than the others, courtesy of his ban which he is serving now, still the Liverpool striker will be one of the prime men to lay claim on this. The go-to man for Liverpool last season will also be the main player for them this term and thus it is not absurd to think that Suarez will win the Golden Boot this season.

Robin Van Persie- The United striker must be the favourite to win the Golden Ball after his feat the last season, infact in the last couple of seasons. The team banks on him and expects him to score every time he gets on the field. He is the knight in shining armour for his team and if United are to recapture the league title, Van Persie needs to score lots for them.

Christian Benteke- The Aston Villa striker has a mediocre midfield and that may be only reason that the Golden Ball may just elude him. Otherwise he has all the abilities to achieve the Golden Ball at the end of this season. Till now he has scored three goals for his team and has looked to be in brilliant form.

Roberto Soldado- The former Valencia forward is a strong contender for this coveted prize and with no Bale around to steal the spotlight, Soldado may just prove his capabilities this year. He has already hit two penalties for his team and looked to be a decent proposition. Although a bit unlikely with the others in the league, sill he can certainly be a dark horse this season.

Sergio Aguero- After scoring the most important goal in his life, Sergio Aguero spent the major part of last season in the treatement tables and coupled with a string of under par performances meant that the Argentinian managed to score just 12 league goals. Aguero started the new season with a goal against Newcastle United and is showing form similar to his first season for Manchester City. He will need to scoring a lot of goals or risk losing his starting XI place to Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic or Alvaro Negredo.

Honorable mentions to Daniel Sturridge, Olivier Giroud and Rickie Lambert.
