Top 5 Players FPL Managers Should Buy Using Their Second Wildcard

The New Year always comes bearing gifts for Fantasy Premier League managers, in the form of the second transfer wildcard.

A wildcard allows you to make unlimited free transfers throughout a Gameweek. Playing a wildcard will remove any points deductions from transfers already made in the same Gameweek. For most managers, it provides a chance to reshuffle and reshape their squad as they look to get to the top of their respective leagues or get back in the hunt after a difficult first half of the season.

And here we take a look at five players that FPL bosses can look to buy using their second wildcard.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

The England international was the 4th-highest on the list of players to be drafted in for the previous gameweek and managers who don’t already have him in their squad, should definitely look to sign him up, given that he has already collected 146 points in FPL.

The 23-year old has been in searing hot form this season for the Citizens and has already netted a whopping 14 goals in 20 Premier League outings, along with 6 assists as well. And add to that, given City’s dominance in games, a clean-sheet is also always on the table, which would mean him earning an extra point. At £8.9million, one will get a regular source of goals and assists, along with a possibility of a shut-out. Having Sterling in your FPL team is a no-brainer really.

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

21 league games, 18 league goals, the current top-scorer in the Premier League, finished as the leading goal-scorer of the calendar year 2017; Tottenham’s Harry Kane is unstoppable at the moment.

The England international, who has accrued 134 FPL points, has scored two hat-tricks in his last three starts for the Lilywhites and is in the form of his life at the moment. And rightly, he was second on the list of the most bought players for the previous gameweek. Although he has failed to find the target in his last two appearances, the 24-year old remains a consistent performer and will get you goals almost every game, without a doubt. At £12.9 million, he is worth every penny.

Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)

Another Manchester United man that has been firing on all cylinders in the festive period, Jesse Lingard was one of the most transferred players for the last gameweek and is likely to be so for the coming week as well. Lingard, so far, has accumulated 86 points in FPL.

The 25-year old attacking midfielder has been in devastating form in recent weeks and has scored a total of 7 goals in the league, all of which have come in his last 9 Premier League outings, and also has 4 assists. Lingard possesses the 4th-highest goals/assists per minute ratio in the entire league, ahead of leading goal-scorer Harry Kane as well. And he’s available at just £6.2 million. Need I say more?

Ben Mee (Burnley)

Doesn’t always get the credit he deserves, but Burnley’s centre-half Ben Mee has had a huge hand to play in their brilliant campaign so far this season. Last season, it was Michael Keane who dominated all the headlines and this term, it has been James Tarkowski who’s capturing the limelight. However, Mee’s importance to the side cannot be overstated.

The 28-year old has featured in all but two league games for the Clarets this season and has helped them secure 8 clean sheets so far. Rarely gets booked, as highlighted by just one yellow so far this season. At £4.9million with 70 FPL points so far, he would represent a decent buy for any side.

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)

One of the most consistent full-backs in the Premier League, playing for a team that has the second-best defensive record in the competition, Marcos Alonso is another must-have in FPL teams.

The 27-year-old left wing-back has collected 123 points so far this season in the FPL, which is the most for any defender. Six goals in the league along with an assist in 22 games, coupled with the fact that he is a guaranteed starter week in week out and has helped Chelsea keep four clean sheets in their past five games make him a reliable option to have in your FPL side.
