Jose Mourinho is at Manchester United now and it will be a test of his ability to bring back the glory days at The Theater of Dreams. The Red Devils are not having the best of times and failed to finish in the top four last season, though the FA Cup triumph would have finally given them some joy. Manager Louis van Gaal was eventually sacked and it is now up to the Portuguese boss to make things right.
The former Chelsea boss will be looking to reinforce the squad, as per his likes and dislikes and might sign and sell a few players in the current transfer window.
One such player who might be sold by the club, if his services are not needed by the Premier League giants could be Daley Blind. However, it might not be a wise choice.
Here are three reasons why I feel that the Dutchman should remain part of the United squad for the years to come:
3. A total team player:
Under Van Gaal, the 26 year old superstar played in a host of positions that the manager asked him to. It included playing as a left-back, a defensive midfielder and eventually a center-back. Though these might not have been his preferred playing positions, he did his part for the manager and executed what was asked of him. He tried his best to be a part of the United squad and was a regular member of the first team under the former boss, most of the time.
2. Looks settled into the current system:
After a lot of trial and error by the Dutch boss, he finally found his best starting eleven at Old Trafford. Players had started adjusting themselves slowly to the new system and were co-ordinating to play with each other, like any team generally does. Now that the Dutchman has departed, Mourinho will have to find a player who can adjust himself according to the system and link up well with the other players, which will take time. It will be advisable to keep Blind around, as if that does not happen, Mourinho can always play him if needed desperately.
1. Provides a backup in defence and defensive midfield positions:
One of the main advantages of having Blind in the side for Van Gaal was that, the former Ajax man provided a backup both in defence and the defensive midfield positions. Though he might not have been the best player to start in front of the back-line, he ensured that his manager did have another option to use, if he really needed to. He could provide the same choice to Mourinho as well, who might need more players like Blind in his time, till he gets settled at United.
