Three Players New Swansea Manager Carlos Carvalhal Can Add To The Squad In January

Swansea City endured a rather tumultuous start to the new season and a slew of disappointing performances got Paul Clement sacked. With the January window fast approaching and the second half of the season lying ahead, the Swans have appointed former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal as their new manager and he will have quite an uphill task ahead of him.

The Swans are one of the teams to have been constantly threatened by the prospect of relegation. They are currently gracing the 19th spot in the league table and are in need of somebody who can haul them out of danger and solidify a place for them higher up the table to cement their Premier League status. For that to happen, the winter transfer window will be a crucial time to scout new recruits. With that in mind, here are three players Carvalhal could target to make the club stronger.

Nacer Chadli – West Bromwich Albion

Despite his many strengths, Chadli seems to have been iced out of the West Brom squad. He could not play to his full potential with Tony Pulis’ pragmatic approach and even though the manager has departed from the club, the player is likely to find it tough to make room for himself once more.

Swansea were interested in a move for him over the summer and given the situation, they could renew their interest once more in January. He has managed to score one goal this season, having made 3 Premier League appearances so far and Chadli could benefit from an exit.

Daniel Opare – Augsburg

Opare has been linked with joining Swansea and considering how the club are in dire need of an attacking right-back, the 27-year-old does seem like a viable option. Moreover, he could also prove to be an economical option since his contract with Augsburg will end by the end of the season. Manager Carvalhal currently has Kyle Naughton for that role but the player has struggled to contribute to the attack and Opare could be the ideal choice.

Jonathan Viera – Las Palmas

Linked with joining Swansea over the summer, the club could renew their interest in him once more. Ever since Gylfi Sigurdsson departed to join Everton, the Swans have struggled in the midfield area. To that extent, Viera could prove to be a sturdy alternative especially since the club have quite a task ahead in terms of securing their top-flight status.
