Newcastle United Opinion: Magpies must convince Rondon to stay next term
Jose Salomon Rondón is a Venezuelan centre-forward who plays for Premier League club Newcastle on loan from Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion. He is a proven goalscorer who uses his strength and physical stature to his advantage.
He is a massive presence in the opposition box and is capable of timing his runs into space really well. Although he isn’t the fastest striker, his ability to mentally be one step ahead of the defenders makes him an equally potent threat.
His movement in between the centre-halves can cause immense confusion while his hold-up play is one of his biggest assets. Strong and well built, he is a hard man to bring down and he certainly doesn’t back away from a challenge either.
He uses his physicality effectively and tends to bully opposition defenders in the air. While his build does deter mobility to a certain extent, he reactions and ability to finish in the box make him a top notch Premier League striker. His scoring record in various leagues also prove his pedigree.
He has a commendable scoring record at every club he has played at. He has played 72 times for La Liga outfit Malaga – a spell during which he scored 27 goals in 72 appearances for Albicelestes. Although injuries have hindered his consistency in England, given time, he is capable of amazing things.
His spell in Kazan and St.Petersburg were also excellent and this what attracted a move from West Bromwich Albion to bring him to the English game. While he does suit the style of Premier League football, he has scored 6 times in 20 games this season for Newcastle.
Considering that Newcastle are a side struggling to find the back of the net, his numbers are gold. With more talent being targeted in the summer by Rafa Benitez, there is more reason for Rondón to eventually get back to his absolute best.
He brings the creative players like Ayoze Perez and Christian Atsu into the game and once the Magpies have a fully fit squad again, there’s no reason why they can’t go on a respectable win-streak in the league.

As we saw from the win against Manchester City a few weeks ago, given the right circumstances, Magpies are an excellent side and Rondon’s predatory instincts, added to the signing they will make in the summer, will be enough to hoist them to another safe mid-table finish next term.
