Tips To Pochettino – 3 Major Mistakes Tottenham Should Avoid In The Final Few Weeks Of The Summer

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

Three Mistakes That Mauricio Pochettino Should Not Commit This Summer

Tottenham Hotspur have been a bit too slow off the mark in the transfer window this summer as they are yet to make their first signing of the summer. They are still linked with some decent star names but are not close to landing any of those players before the start of the season.

The deadline day is less than a month away and this might set in some panic at the camp as Spurs will know that they will need a few additions if they are to compete with the best in Europe this season. This might see Pochettino make some rushed signings, which could prove to be disastrous. Pochettino’s previous summer was not so productive either, and so he will have to avoid repeating such mistakes.

Here are three such things he should avoid doing this summer, to make sure that his time in the market is more productive than the previous summer.

Stop Spending On Youth For The First Team

The Argentine manager is known for his recruitment model of spending on young unproven talents with potential and giving them confidence and time to turn them into superstars. The likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane are prime examples of his success but the likes of Vincent Janssen and Georges Kevin-N’Koudou are pulling the team down. Pochettino is yet again looking for the likes of Max Meyer and co, who are not too experienced and this must stop if Spurs want to take the next step in the Premier League.

Not Finding Established Match-winners

Here is why. The Tottenham squad is one of the most exciting and the first team, one of the strongest. But Pochettino does not have too many super stars to call from the bench during contingencies and that has hurt them time and again. Spurs should finally start spending on proven talent, even if they have to spend over the odds, as they need a European star to help them compete with the best in the Champions League. They need match-winners in their team and should avoid spending on ‘the next big things’.

Not Buying Players For Particular Positions

Finally, it is important for the manager to identify the position that needs to be strengthened the most, rather than trying to plug holes with dynamic players. Son Heung-min played on the wing and as a striker but it is time for Pochettino to spend on a genuine winger and a goal scoring striker, two different players who can walk into the first team when needed. It is indeed time for Spurs to take the next step and such signings will help them take it easy.
