Two Everton Players Who Sam Allardyce Could Sell In January

During the summer transfer window, Everton seemed like the team to beat in the new season. Former manager Ronald Koeman spent quite a hefty amount to bring in new faces that were expected to strengthen and transform the team into a squad that could perhaps break into the top 6 or go higher. More than any other mid-table teams, the Toffees were being regarded as a major threat and were expected to at least secure a top-10 finish with ease.

However, things are never so easy in the Premier League and Everton had to find that out the hard way. Once the season began, everything went downhill for the club and they began dropping points almost every week. This led to widespread frustration among the fans, especially after the promising signs during the transfer window. Soon enough, the club’s failure to win games led them close to teetering on the brink of relegation danger and that eventually led to the Toffees sacking manager Ronald Koeman.

A period of uncertainty followed as the club appointed David Unsworth as the temporary manager. It was not going to be an easy task to rescue Everton from where they were but Unsworth still managed to bring them to 13th spot in the league table. Currently, the Merseyside club are level with Newcastle United as far as points are concerned but the Magpies are ahead based on goal difference. After all, the Toffees have not scored much and there are several areas of concern that new manager Sam Allardyce will have to address. One of them will be to get rid of existing players that are failing to live up to their billing and here are two such players Allardyce could perhaps sell in January.

Ross Barkley of Everton
Ross Barkley

Morgan Schneiderlin

The former Manchester United midfielder has never truly found his form ever since he left Southampton. He has been below average whenever he’s come on the field and there seems to be no signs of improvement from the player. Even Unsworth could not extract results out of him and now with Allardyce in the fray, he has a lot more to focus on than to push Schneiderlin into playing better.

Hence, it seems unlikely for him to play regularly anytime soon and it might be the best option to consider offloading him to a different club in January. Everton have an uphill task ahead of them and right now, Schneiderlin seems like a liability.

Ross Barkley

The player was close to moving to Chelsea over the summer but the move fell through at the last minute. Since then, things have not been all that great for the player. He continues to struggle in terms of delivering strong performances and it seems like he should have made the switch in the previous window itself.

Something is not working out for Barkley at the club and that is affecting his growth as a player. He is quite young and he needs to be at a club where he can play day in and day out to improve his trade. Also, selling Barkley in January could raise some extra funds for the Toffees to bring in new recruits.
