Why Man United must sell Alexis Sanchez this summer

According to a report from Telegraph, AS Roma have enquired about signing Manchester United outcast Alexis Sanchez. The report also states that the Serie A giants want to sign the Chilean ace on a loan.

Offloading Sanchez is a good move for Man Utd

Sanchez made the switch to Old Trafford in January 2018 and it has been downhill for him since then.

The 30-year-old failed to make his presence felt with the Red Devils, as he couldn’t replicate the success he had with Arsenal for around four seasons.

To be precise, Sanchez garnered a goal and assists tally of just six in 27 appearances the last term, a poor return for a player of his class. What’s worse is that he missed more than 20 matches due to injury concerns.

Furthermore, the ex-Barcelona man was no exception in a lacklustre campaign that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co endured the last term.

An abundance of forwards makes Sanchez a misfit

United ran a fair business in the transfer window, acquiring the likes of Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, all of whom are exciting and promising talents.

As far as the attacking options are concerned, United are awash with options like Marcus Rashford, new-entrant James, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial, with the latter now in charge of the No.9 slot, following the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

That said, Sanchez’s chances of a place in the first-team looks bleaker than ever, regardless of his decent campaign with Chile in Copa America.

The former Gunners ace holds a contract at Old Trafford until 2022. Be it a loan move or a permanent sale, United shouldn’t hesitate to sanction his departure.

Final Verdict

The Red Devils are heading into the new campaign with a slightly revamped squad, determined to return to their former glory days.

Sanchez can’t be promised a place under the Norwegian manager and his departure wouldn’t cause much damage.
