Why Simon Mignolet leaving Liverpool would be ideal for all parties

According to the Mirror, Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could be offered a route out of the club by French club Nice, managed by Patrick Vieira. The Belgian is now a backup at Anfield after the Reds spent a fortune to sign Alisson Becker from Roma in the summer.

It is clearly evident that the 30-year-old isn’t going to get much game time, especially after witnessing the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s men were knocked out in the first game of the EFL Cup. As per the report, the Ligue 1 side are interested in the player and are keen to sign him in the January transfer window.

Mignolet, bought from Sunderland for £9m in 2013, wanted to leave Liverpool in the summer but had to stay as Loris Karius went out on loan to Besiktas. Here’s why it would be ideal for both Liverpool and Mignolet if they part ways in January:

Time for Liverpool to trust in youth

After spending a huge amount on Alisson, it is fairly obvious that Liverpool are expecting the Brazilian to take the gloves for a long term.

They are investing in an important position in the league and the continental games. Hence, to play as a back-up to the first-choice keeper, the Reds can trust in youth.

They have a fantastic youth setup, from where players of the highest quality emerge. The Merseysiders do have Kamil Grabara and Caiomhin Kelleher to work on and upgrade them to the first-team. They are both talented goalkeepers, who if given a chance, can showcase their talent on the big stage.

Therefore, it would be great for the club to promote their local players to become number two. Just like Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Reds can have another player from the youth academy featuring in the first-team.

Verdict

Mignolet was the first-choice up until December last year, however, the emergence of Karius, and now the arrival of Alisson means the Belgian is the second choice.

However, it makes sense for him to go elsewhere and look for a regular spot. Consequently, Liverpool can trust in youth and upgrade one of their own to come into the first-team and take England by storm.
