Three Transfers Birmingham City Could Complete This Summer

With Harry Redknapp now involved at the Blues, many new signings can be expected at St Andrews. Redknapp is well known for his wheeling and dealing in the transfer market and expect a few familiar faces to turn up at Birmingham before we reach September and the transfer deadline.

People are usually critical of Redknapp’s penchant for bringing in old boys wherever he goes (and we think it’s safe to say Defoe is off the menu this time), but in Birmingham’s case, it may well be just what they need. A huge change is required at the club and Redknapp giving out some ‘jobs for the boys’ in order to hit the ground running next season shouldn’t be something we should criticise. Here are 3 moves he may make over the coming weeks and months:

Niko Kranjcar (Rangers)

Having worked with Redknapp at Tottenham, Portsmouth, and QPR; Kranjcar may have one last chance to rejuvenate his ailing career. Singing for Rangers last summer in retrospect looks like a mistake by both – the player and the club.

Despite making the right noises about wishing to stay and fight for the club, the amiable Croatian will be forgiven for wanting to leave and any small fee forthcoming for the winger who has a year left on his Ibrox deal will be well received by all in Glasgow.

Tommy Elphick (Aston Villa)

Harry would love to get one over his club’s city neighbours and strike up a good old rivalry over the course of the season. Elphick has played 26 league games for the Villa this season but may not be seen as the first choice in his position next season by Steve Bruce. He is definitely a player Harry could find a use for.

Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy)

Another former Redknapp acolyte at Tottenham and another former Aston Villa player; Ireland’s all-time record goalscorer would be a welcome addition to Birmingham’s cause if Harry gets his way. At 36, Keane is still going strong and has netted 103 goals for Galaxy in his 5 seasons at the club.

Coming back to play at the English pace is not something that would hinder the natural goal-getter in him and it would be a fascinating move should the man from Dublin decide to swap living in LA at a high salary, to living in Birmingham.
