Three Things That Jurgen Klopp Needs to Change at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp

The talk of the Premier League has been the signing of Jurgen Klopp as the manager of Liverpool, the German has conceded that this is one of the toughest jobs in the world and bringing Liverpool back to the glory days will take a lot of hard work.

Klopp has joined the club in a rather tough time, especially with the transfer window closed, he does have a lot of players to work with but he has to change quite a few things before he can get them conquering the league again. Liverpool are not the force they were 20-30 years ago and talk about another project has been kept on hold, akin to what Rodgers had spoken about when he joined the club.

There are high hopes from the former Dortmund manager and we list out three things that he must change at Liverpool if he is to achieve success at the club.

The playing style

We all have heard and learned about ‘Gegenpressing’ ever since Klopp came to Liverpool. The German was known for implying this playing style with Mainz and Dortmund and is expected to bring the same to the Merseyside club. Liverpool’s play has gradually deteriorated over the years, but they have played in a similar fashion in the season where they almost won the league.

Klopp doesn’t have a lot of time in bringing his ethos at the club with his first game against Tottenham over the weekend. We need to give him some time before we can expect Liverpool to blast teams away with rock and roll football.

The players

You are only as good as the tools you have, that is something that will be playing at the back of the head of Klopp. Liverpool have spent more than £300 million on players ever since Rodgers joined the club, but they haven’t done much or in fact, improved their position since Rodgers joined the club three years ago.

The failed signings of Balotelli, Lovren and a few others would be sweating under the new manager and Klopp will be ringing in the changes in the January transfer window. Players still have a few months in hand to make an impression on the manager but if his mind is set, an exodus of players could well take place at the club.

The confidence levels

Liverpool’s play had become flat ever since the slip by Steven Gerrard more than a season ago. The Reds seemed to have given it all in that season and post that Rodgers could not bring them back to those amazing levels when they were tearing teams apart. Liverpool have always played with confidence unless they were managed by Hodgson, and Klopp would be looking to bring that swagger back into the players.
