Three Reasons Why Manchester United Should Sign This £40m Midfield Engine Who Can Partner Herrera

The signing of Herrera and Shaw for a hefty sum proved that Manchester United are now ready to spend heavily to get their transfer targets and not waste any time getting back on track. The Club is eager to put last season’s misery behind them and start afresh quickly to prevent losing the tag of title contenders.

Vidal Juventus

While Herrera maybe a decent signing, considering the fact that they have failed to sign long term targets Fabregas and Koke, the Red Devils are still in need a world class midfielder who can carry the team single handedly. One such player – Arturo Vidal has been linked with a £40m move to Manchester United and here are three reasons why the Chilean midfielder should be snapped up by the Red Devils.

Highly technical midfield engine

His style can be compared to Yaya Toure though without the strength. Vidal is technically gifted and has immense energy to carry out box to box operations for his team. He is versatile in the midfield and has played in a number of positions. With 11 goals and 5 assists along with 47 key passes from deep midfield, Arturo Vidal has proved to be a talisman for Juventus and there is no reason why he cannot replicate his form in Manchester. They need such a dynamic flair in the midfield to compete with the likes of Chelsea who have Matic and Fabregas, Man City who have Fernandinho and Toure while Liverpool have Gerrard and Can.

A strong replacement for Carrick

Michael Carrick, now looks beyond his prime and was pretty ineffective last season when a lot of playmaking was asked out of him. As a defensive midfielder, Carrick has lost the power in his legs while his passing is altogether safe and rather ineffective. Vidal is much more energetic and aggressive and offer more cover for the centre backs with his movement than Carrick. Carrick along with Scholes used to form a strong partnership, but with the retirement of the legend, even he has seen a downfall in form and fitness. Vidal could do the job of re-installing the steel in the midfield.

He can make a great partner for Herrera

Ander Herrera is a typical passing playmaker, who operates from Central midfield. In Manchester United’s 4-4-2 system, Herrera would be required to take a central position and bring the wingers into play. Herrera, if partnered with Vidal will have a player who would make box to box runs in order to support him. Vidal’s energy and work rate again plays a key role here as he has the ability to cover for Herrera when he advances forward on occasions, while he can also make darting runs forward when the Spaniard looks for players to pass. Herrera can be the playmaker and Vidal the engine, thus making a formidable centre for the Red Devils and also restoring the effective balance in the squad.

As we know, Man Utd spent heavily on Belgian star Maraoune Fellaini who endured a disappointing first season at Old Trafford. Fellaini wasn’t the type of player needed at the club, as he is more of a target man or a defensive midfielder but not someone who can run the game or make box to box runs. Vidal can offer a lot of dynamism in the squad due to his style of play, which is technical and box to box.
