Three Reasons Why Chelsea Are Favourites To Win The Title Next Year

Share

Chelsea are expected to make some final finishing touches to a very strong squad and as Jose Mourinho says, if the summer transfer window goes well for the Blues, then Chelsea would start saying from day one, that they are going to fight for the title. Chelsea’s main transfer activity would  involve the sensation of the season, striker Diego Costa joining the club while the second main priority would be a good first choice left back. With rumours ranging from Luke Shaw to Alberto Moreno, we can’t wait to see which left back Mourinho would bring in to complete the squad.

Here are three reasons why Chelsea will be the first favourites to win the title:

  1. New strike-force, more firepower

Diego Costa deal is just left to formalise, which means Chelsea now have sorted out their striking issues. Moreover, in his recent press conference, Jose Mourinho declared Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal as an excellent deal for both the player and the clubs involved. The Portuguese tactician was very happy with the young Belgian’s progress and was good to see him evolve in a good team and play well. With such statements, one can see Mourinho bringing back Lukaku to join Diego Costa in Chelsea’s strikers list. Comments about Eto’o and Fernando Torres led to even more furore. Samuel Eto’o is going to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires while Mourinho still wants to keep Torres for the coming season. While Demba Ba is almost certain to leave the club, Chelsea would still be having Diego Costa, Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres, which is a very potent strike force.

  1. Chelsea will open up

Jose Mourinho has publicly promised to play attack minded yet direct football, the way Chelsea played in his first stint. With a confident as well as experienced strike force up front, Chelsea midfielders will have their tasks cut out. The midfield will be less burdened as compared to this season and proving service to the striker would be the only concern in the final third. When Chelsea’s young midfielders will get the direction they want in the final third, Mourinho expects Chelsea to be the best team in the league.

So the defensive football we saw Chelsea play in some key matches will not be used. Chelsea will have more confidence going forward whereas tracking back and defending will never be the issue Chelsea may probably face again after a season long defensive training with Mourinho’s expertise in the subject.

  1. Jose Mourinho’s confidence is never misplaced

When he came out publicly and said that Chelsea were the little horses in the title race, he was subject to mockery and criticism. Nobody saw the Blues as the underdogs because of the amount of money they spend on players and also the quality of players they already have in the team. But Jose knew that Chelsea lack the final pieces in the jigsaw which will only be added after the transitional season. Hence his public denial of Chelsea as title fighters was pretty much accurate.

This time around, the boss has nonchalantly stated that if Chelsea use the transfer window well, the Blues will be winning the league. He never backs down from his statements. He has the ego and self-respect tagged along with pride, which keeps him motivated to achieve his target. His second seasons have been strong ones with Real Madrid and Inter Milan as well. His second season with Chelsea was the best in Chelsea’s history. Such facts only give us more confidence in a very strong willed manager. If he makes up his mind, he goes on to prove it.
