According to reports, West Ham United are looking to lure Rafael Benitez to join the club in the summer should current manager Slaven Bilic be given the sack at the end of the summer.
The Hammers are plummeting down the Premier League standings as they stand without a win in five games running. The Sun had reported earlier that Bilic would be facing the axe if he failed to arrest the slide and get the club to a top-ten finish.
And the Daily Mirror claims that Benitez, who is on the verge of bringing Newcastle United back to the Premier League, is their target to take over from Bilic. West Ham came close to signing Benitez back in 2015, only for Real Madrid to swoop in at the last minute and seal his signature.
Benitez has led the Magpies to the top spot in the EFL Championship and with just 8 more games left to be played, a promotion back to the top-flight looks very much on the horizon for the team. Rafa has claimed in the past, that he would be staying with Newcastle and hence the club should do everything in their powers to keep the Spaniard in-charge of the club for the next few seasons and here are three reasons why.

His coaching history spans across some of the best teams across all top leagues over the years, like Liverpool, Chelsea, Valencia, Inter Milan, Napoli and Real Madrid and this gives an insight into his managerial abilities and how he is regarded.
Twelve major trophies in his career, that include a UEFA Champions League triumph with Liverpool and a UEFA Europa League trophy with Chelsea; is a record that not many managers can boast about. Someone who has proven himself time and again wherever he has gone, the Magpies should definitely keep him at the club for the next few years.
Ability To Get The Best Out Of The Players
Someone like Dwight Gayle who struggled for quite some time with Crystal Palace is now one of the leading goal-scorers in the Championship. Jamaal Lascelles, who wasn’t rated very highly, has become a mainstay in the backline and has become a leader on the pitch. This is the testament to the fact that Benitez has the ability to get the best from his players.
Newcastle did have the best squad in the Championship this season, but the fact that Benitez has been able to get the best out of some of the squad members who haven’t been able to do so well in the past should be reason enough for the Magpies board to make sure he doesn’t leave in the summer.

Benitez took over at the club last year when they were in a difficult position. While he could easily have walked away when Newcastle were relegated, the Spaniard opted to stay at the club.
He has worked hard to get his team at the top of the standings in the Championship and looks all set to take his team back to the Premier League on the first time of asking. Without him, there was every possibility that things could have been much more different and difficult for Newcastle.
