3 Reasons Why Social Media And The Majority Loves Manchester United

Manchester United are arguably the biggest and the most-loved football club across the world. One of the oldest and the most consistent English clubs, United has rich history and are the most successful club in the Premier League.

Legends like George Best, Bobby Charlton, Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs and many more have graced the revered Old Trafford ground over the years and have led the club to some glorious moments. In recent years, the Red Devils may not have enjoyed a similar success as they did in the past, but now under new manager Jose Mourinho, they look like they are back on the right track.

Here we give you three reasons as to what makes United the most followed and the most adored club across the world:

The Munich Air Disaster and The Bounce back

The Munich Air Disaster occurred when the British European Airways flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from an ice-covered runway of the Munich-Riem Airport in West Germany on the sixth of February in 1958. The plane crash claimed 23 lives, which included 8 Manchester United players and three club officials. It was the darkest day in the history of the club, that left huge ramifications.

However, the Red Devils weren’t to be down and out. Soon under the guidance of Sir Matt Busby, who himself was injured on the plane, United bounced back brilliantly, winning the FA Cup in 1963 and followed it up with league victories in 1965 and 1967. But the crowning glory came when they won the European Cup in 1968 at the Wembley.

This incident truly defined the ethos and the spirit of the club, which has been carried on until today and will live on for a long time.

Sir Alex Ferguson

After Sir Matt Busby, if anyone truly breathed and lived the spirit of the club, it has to be Sir Alex Ferguson. Having been appointed as the successor to a struggling Ron Atkinson, the Scotsman took the club to places it has never been before and to heights that were never scaled.

In a spell that lasted for an amazing 27 years, Sir Alex won everything that is there to be won with United and along the way gave the fans some of the most memorable moments in the history of the club. Known for his inspirational management skills and his mind games with rival managers, Sir Alex masterminded the most productive and successful period of the club starting from an FA Cup win in 1990 to the club’s twentieth league title in 2012-13, which was his last year in-charge of the club. He collected 38 major honours along the way.

It is no surprise that United have struggled post the legendary manager’s retirement and miss his imposing, gum-chewing presence on the sidelines. But there is no question that Sir Alex was the best there was and nobody will be able to match up to him.

The Class of ‘92

A major part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team and the driving force behind the sustained success over a large part of two decades, the class of ’92 is the living embodiment of the club’s philosophy.

Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. These were not just any normal academy graduates for United, but these were the chosen few who were tasked with rebuilding the club and leading the team into a new era. They delivered and how!

Everyone is now a club legend in their own right. They played a huge role in carrying United through a period of immense success and glory. Butt, Beckham and Phil Neville may have moved on from the club in the latter stages of their career but Giggs, Scholes and Gary Neville ended their career at Old Trafford. All the legends still remain associated with United in some capacity or the other, and are one of the main reasons for the adulation and following that United receive.
