3 Worst Signings Leicester Have Completed In Recent Seasons
Leicester City are not in the best of shapes right now in the Premier League. They endured a dismal start to the season, which saw Craig Shakespeare get sacked. Claude Puel took charge of the club after that but their performances have not been encouraging enough, to say the least.
The Foxes made a remarkable challenge to win the Premier League in the 2015/16 season but their power has fizzled out ever since, even though they managed to retain most of their star players. However, over the years, Leicester have made some questionable choices. With the January window coming up, here’s a look at three of the worst signings made by Leicester City.
Vicente Iborra
What Leicester City achieved in two consecutive summer transfer windows with Esteban Cambiasso and then with N’Golo Kante, the Foxes were hoping to repeat the good fortune by picking up the Spanish holding midfielder.
However, the former stand-in skipper for Sevilla has not made the same sort of impact in the Premier League. While the exit of Danny Drinkwater did provide the 29-year-old more playing time, his slow and rugged play has not filled the void left by his predecessor.
Yohan Benalouane
He joined the club in 2015 but his hot-headed tendency has caused a lot of problems for Leicester. The defender was booked 5 times in 9 games last season and almost received a red card during a pre-season friendly. He made only 15 appearances in the second half of last season and created problems in 9 of those games.
These numbers itself provide a clear picture as to how risky the player can get. He has not added significant value to the club and as the Foxes launch a comeback fight, they cannot afford this risk.
Ahmed Musa
The forward joined Leicester City last year but has received little to no chances to prove his mettle. Life is becoming frustrating for Musa as he has failed to nail down a regular spot in the team. He arrived from CSKA Moscow with a lot of expectations to excel, following four fruitful years in the Russian capital, but he has failed to establish himself at the King Power Stadium.
He made 21 league appearances last term, scoring twice. There were some efforts to make the 25-year old an effective strike partner of Jamie Vardy but that did not work out since Musa simply lacked the power. Hence, Musa is a part of the three signings Leicester could have done without.
