Forget Milner – Here Are 3 Brilliant Left-Backs Liverpool Should Target In The Summer

Signing One Of These Three Left-Backs Would Do Liverpool A World Of Good

Liverpool have had a topsy-turvy season so far this year. After having started the season brilliantly, they faded away at the turn of the year, that saw them move out of the top four of the Premier League standings.

However, they have managed to muster a comeback in recent weeks and now find themselves 4th in the league standings. Sealing the Champions League qualification will prove to be a difficult task given the pressure Manchester United are building from the 5th position.

Champions League or not, there are a few areas on the pitch that Jurgen Klopp will need to reinforce in the upcoming summer window, if they are to sustain a title challenge next season. And one of those key positions is that of a left-back.

The Reds have been utilising veteran midfielder James Milner as a make-shift full-back this season and while the former Aston Villa and Manchester City man has been performing admirably well, he does not represent a long-term solution for the club. Back-up option Alberto Moreno has proven time and again that he can be a huge liability each time he takes the field. So, it is imperative that the Reds go all out to bring in a left-sided defender, someone who will fit right into the starting XI, especially with European involvement on the cards. In this regard, we come up with three left-backs who would add value to Liverpool squad.

Sead Kolasinac

The Bosnian international has been linked heavily with a move to Liverpool since the January transfer window along with many other European giants.

After having endured a year and a half out on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury, Kolasinac has bounced back brilliantly this season for Schalke. The 23-year old has scored 3 times and set up 7 goals this season from 30 appearances and has been a prominent figure for the Gelsenkirchen-based outfit.

Someone who loves to attack and who possesses excellent crossing abilities, Kolasinac will be a perfect fit for the way Liverpool operate.

Ryan Sessegnon

While many might feel that Sessegnon is too young to ply his trade week in week out in the Premier League, the 16-year old has been making a lot of waves with Fulham in the EFL Championship and has been credited with interest from some of the biggest Premier League clubs.

The full-back, in his 24 senior appearances this season, has scored 6 times and set up 3 assists for the Cottagers. The numbers are great considering his tender age. The blistering pace that he has displayed this season, combined with maturity that belies his age, Sessegnon could be perfect for Liverpool.

It might be a tad too soon, but his stock will keep rising and he will cost much more in the future than he does now. So, it would be wise for Liverpool to get him now and watch him grow at Anfield.

Kieran Tierney

Another excellent young left-back, Kieran Tierney has taken the Scottish Premiership by storm this season at Celtic under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 19-year old left-back has been immense for the Bhoys this term. Having made 31 appearances across all competitions, Tierney has scored one goal and has 12 assists to his name so far this season. Full of attacking intent, Tierney is an adventurous left-back who doesn’t miss a single opportunity to bomb forward. At the same time, his pace allows him to track back and cover up in defence, making him an ideal fit for the Jurgen Klopp style of play.

It is difficult to see Celtic let go of their prized asset, but if Liverpool come calling, it could prove to be too hard for Tierney to turn down.
