Forget Zaha – Here Are 3 Speed Merchants Tottenham Can Sign Instead

Tottenham Hotspur have been one been one of the best teams in the league this season and Mauricio Pochettino’s side look set for a Champions League spot once again. They have identified that wide areas need to be strengthened ahead of next season.

Spurs have been plotting a swoop for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha since the summer of 2016, but a move never materialised. However, the Lilywhites are once again considering a move for the 24-year old Ivory Coast international in the upcoming transfer window.

Zaha has had a decent season for Palace and has scored five times and assisted eight goals so far. With Palace struggling in the bottom-half of the table, the threat of relegation is looming large. But having rejected Tottenham’s approach last time around, the Eagles could once again thwart their approach, if they manage to stay up. Hence, here we give you three alternatives Pochettino should line up, if the move for the former Manchester United winger fails to materialise:

Riyad Mahrez

The last year’s PFA Player of the Year has gone off the boil this season, but that has been the case with the entire Leicester City squad. But his quality is undoubted and he should be on the list for Tottenham.

Mahrez was the chief architect for Leicester’s title-winning run last season and while the performances haven’t been up to that standard this time around, he still has a decent return of eight goals and four assists from 34 appearances across all competitions. Four of his goals have come in the Champions League, in his first-ever season in the premier footballing event in Europe, demonstrating the fact that he has the quality to succeed at that stage.

And with Leicester also fighting hard to stay up, it would not be too difficult to convince the Algerian to move. Fast and extremely skilled, Mahrez can prove to be the difference maker for Tottenham next season.

Riyad Mahrez would be a great addition for Tottenham.

Bruma

The Galatasaray winger is extremely talented and demand would be high for a player of his ability. However, Tottenham can give a go for the highly rated youngster.

The 22-year old has had another impressive campaign for the Turkish giants and has scored eight goals and assisted eight more from his 28 appearances so far this season. He is someone who can play anywhere across the attacking line and Bruma will add versatility to the Tottenham line-up. A pacey dribbler, the Portuguese youth international has a penchant to cut in from the flanks to devastating effect and can stretch the opposition wide with his speed.

At just 22 years of age, Bruma has gathered a lot of experience and he ticks the boxes for Tottenham’s policy of recruiting young talents with potential. With only a year left on his contract, he could be available on the cheap for the North Londoners.

Nathan Redmond

Arguably one of the best players for Southampton this season, Redmond has been an excellent addition for the Saints and has caught the eye with his displays on the wings. He is such valuable player for Southampton right now.

The 23-year old has scored 6 times this term and has set up one goal and has been highly impressive. His pace and directness in the final third will be a huge asset for Spurs. Comfortable on either flank and also through the middle, Redmond has become an integral part of the Saints’ squad. His recent performances against Manchester United and Watford have shown that he is definitely meant for bigger and better things.

With his pace and directness, Redmond could prove to be an instrumental addition for Tottenham and he would cost them much lesser than what Zaha would cost, thus making him an exciting prospect to look at.

Redmond would add a different dimension to Tottenham gameplay.
