The English Premier League will see world’s best managers competing against each other for the first time but attention will also be given to the senior players in the league. The likes of John Terry, Kompany and Rooney will play crucial for their respective clubs, it will be interesting to see how they get on with the new managers, they might have to play a bit part role but even that could be crucial in the final scheme of things. These seniors player will under scrutiny next season, as they struggled last season to find decent form. A bad season for some of them could spell the end of their career or playing time at their clubs.

John Terry

One of the best defenders to have graced the game of football, was caught in a racism strom and was mocked by fans around the world for appearing in a full kit and taking the centre stage for the trophy presentation in the Champions League Final in 2012, for a game in which he was suspended. However during his 16 years at Stamford Bridge, he was defensive stalwart, who was not only excellent positionally but was also great aerially. His was superb at the back but also contributed a fair amount upfront with goals from set pieces. The renewal of his contact became hot topic for debate earlier this season, but at the end Chelsea did decide to offer him one year contract extension, as he still a top defender and a top class leader that the Blues need right now.

Vincent Kompany

Another defender on our list, who struggled last season with form and fitness. Pep Guardiola will take charge of City this summer and is not known to have patience with players who aren’t contributing their fare share to the team. Kompany has been a rock in City’s defense line since the Oil Revolution took place there. He has been compared to the best defenders in the world recently, but last season he could never really get going, which resulted in City’s poor performance at the back last season. There are reports that Guardiola will bring in a new strong defender at the Etihad Stadium, therefore it becomes even more important for the Belgian international to have a good season. He is a great leader, who can lead the team to major successes next campaign.

Wayne Rooney

The England captain will turn 31 this October. He has been brilliant for Manchester United since signing for them in 2004 from Everton. Although he still has a few more years left in the tank, it will interesting to see how he does under Jose Mourinho. Also with the arrival of mega star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rooney’s role could prove to be very vital. With his pace decreasing with age, he moved to the midfield last season, in order to contribute more to the team. It will be crucial that his partnership with Ibrahimovic clicks quickly, otherwise United could be left checking up for the rest of the season.
