West Brom Opinion: Should West Brom make a move for Moi Gomez?

With both Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle in an incredible goal-scoring form in the Championship, West Bromwich have managed to patch up the holes in their team. The duo has managed an incredible 33 goals together so far this season and there are still 11 games left in the season.

While they will add more to that tally, it’s thanks to their skill on the ball that the chances that have been created. This has allowed West Brom to sit fourth in the second tier behind only Leeds United, Norwich City and Sheffield United.

However, what should be the Baggies’ main concern as they enter the summer window is a new attacking midfielder. At the moment, the club only has Wesley Hoolahan but the Irishman is 36 years old and is struggling to play every single game in the Championship.

This has affected the Baggies and things will go from bad to worse next season if they don’t bring in replacements. While Rekeem Harper and Stefan Johansen have done a decent job as number 10s, the latter will return to Fulham at the end of his loan spell.

Harper, on the other hand, is just 18 years old and needs time to grow more into his position despite the signs of great potential. For Moore, that adds to his problems, but that’s exactly why the 44-year-old have to target Moi Gomez.

A talented and versatile player, the 24-year-old can play as a central midfielder or as a left winger but his preferred position is as an attacking midfielder. That’s where the young Spaniard excels, thanks to a wonderful cocktail of offensive skills.

He excels in the final third, which is where the Baggies need a creative spark and moreover, his creativity and passing will add another dimension to the side.

Unlike many number 10s in the modern game, Gomez is also a good defender, combining tackling and tenacity beautifully.

The 24-year-old is also an extremely hard-working footballer. Like most footballers, he has plenty of weakness but a key one is his composure. Gomez doesn’t score too many goals and that is down to his composure in one-vs-one situations.

He has a rather lethal right foot which has let him down on more than one occasion but that was before a move to Sporting Gijon.

Conclusion

At the La Liga side, Moi Gomez has improved leaps and bounds, patching up his weaknesses. That has been showcased in his loan spell at SD Huesca, with him going above and beyond to make sure the relegation-threatened side, stays afloat.

All this simply shows that a move to West Bromwich would be perfect for both sides.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
