This talented 21-year-old is the perfect goalkeeper for Bournemouth and Eddie Howe has to get him

Bournemouth opinion: Should the Cherries sign Bartlomiej Dragowski?

Bournemouth, for all their struggles, still managed to finish 14th in the Premier League but things could have been so much different.

The Cherries had a fantastic start to their season, losing just two of their opening ten games. It was a brilliant run but injuries and various other issues saw them lose the next four games.

After that, more injuries affected Eddie Howe, with Ryan Fraser one of the only first-team stars fully fit. Eventually, the club got their mojo back but by that time, it was far too late. They had to slump to a rather disappointing 14th place finish when they could have easily challenged for the top seven place.

It shows the potential that Eddie Howe has at his disposal but first he has to do some culling to his current crop of players. The Cherries have an ageing squad mixed with a few young stars and a few in their prime but a large majority are players above the age of 28.

That needs to change and Howe’s first priority should be adding a new goalkeeper. While he does have two in the shape of Asmir Begovic and Artur Boruc, neither goalkeeper has managed to establish himself as a first choice.

Instead, Begovic has found himself on the fringes of the squad, with the 39-year-old Boruc getting the first team gig. While the he has done decently, they need someone younger.

The Bournemouth Echo has revealed that the Cherries are keen on a move for Bartlomiej Dragowski. The young Fiorentina goalkeeper has been on loan at Empoli and has done exceptionally well.

While his loan club did get relegated on the final day of the season, Dragowski was their standout star. He broke a few records along the way, including the Serie A record for most saves in a single game, saving all 14 shots on target.

It showcased his phenomenal reflexes and his ability in goal, along with composure and coolness under pressure. That is what Bournemouth need in their next goalkeeper and given that he’s only 21 years old, Bartlomiej Dragowski has a long way to go.

Bartlomiej Dragowski is a talented shot-stopper and a brilliant heir to Artur Boruc’s safe presence in goal. The 21-year-old has a long way to go in his career and has already shown a rather incredible potential, which is what Bournemouth need in their team.
