This 24-year-old Spanish magician would be a world-class signing for Man United and Solskjaer must get him

Manchester United opinion: The Red Devils should sign Saul Niguez

According to a report from ESPN, Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez is on the radar of Manchester United. Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously spoken of his desire to bring in new players this summer to rebuild his squad.

He has already secured the signatures of Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace. However, Solskjaer is far from done as he is hellbent on reinforcing his midfield, following the losses of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.

Fellaini was sold to China during the January transfer window and Herrera was released by the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer. The Spaniard’s recent departure has left Solskjaer with limited options in central midfield.

The United boss has the likes Nemanja Matic, Fred, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira currently at his disposal. However, they aren’t enough if the Norwegian tactician wants to compete for trophies next term.

McTominay was the rare bright spark in an otherwise disastrous run under Solskjaer during the business end of the season. Matic doesn’t fit into the United boss’ quick and expansive system, while Pereira appears best as a squad player.

Fred had a tough debut season at Old Trafford, failing to justify his hefty price-tag. following his transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer. Pogba, meanwhile, was the club’s top scorer and he particularly thrived in the initial months of Solskjaer’s reign as a temporary manager.

The Frenchman’s form surprisingly faded in the latter stages of the 2018/19, yet that hasn’t stopped him from being linked away to Juventus and Real Madrid this summer. Solskjaer is aware of the immediate impact he needs in his midfield and that’s where the talented Saul Niguez comes in.

He has gone onto become a star at Atletico Madrid and Spain, establishing himself as one of the most complete midfielders across Europe.

A fantastic passer of the ball, the Spanish international is very quick and can make darting runs with the ball into the opposition penalty area, which makes him a dangerous threat from midfield.

Saul is equally adept at intercepting and breaking the opposition’s play. The midfielder tends to do everything with so much ease and can fulfil a number of different midfield roles, whilst having a habit of stepping up in big games.

He’ll give United’s midfield the balance they have been lacking for some years now, adding some much-needed experience as well.

Verdict

At 24, Saul is set to embark upon his peak years which Solskjaer’s United could look to benefit from in the near future.
