Manchester United Opinion: Is Paulo Dybala a viable alternative to Lukaku?

According to reports from The Mirror, Manchester United are said to be running out of patience with Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku who has failed to deliver on the massive expectations placed on him at the time of his purchase.

The report also suggests that United have set an ultimatum regarding the Lukaku’s performances with Juventus’ Argentine superstar Paulo Dybala being touted as a potential replacement for the misfiring Belgian striker.

United purchased the former Chelsea striker at the start of last season but he has fallen quite heavily short of the levels he was delivering for former club Everton. This season, he has made 23 Premier League appearances and found the 8 times.

While this isn’t a terrible record by any standard, given the price that was paid for his services and the massive expectations that were placed on him at the start of his United career, he has failed to deliver quite drastically.

He boasted excellent numbers for Everton having scored an almost unbelievable 87 goals from his 166 Toffees’ appearances. Since the switch to Old Trafford, his numbers have dwindled quite badly having scored 36 times from 83 goals.

This is further proven in his personal trophy cabinet because it includes just the one FA Cup he won with Chelsea in 2012, when he was still very much a fringe player. His performances this season haven’t been inspired by a long shot and for the first half of the campaign, it just seemed like he had forgotten how a ball works.

The time is right for Manchester United to offload a player who is very clearly a misfit for this historic football club. While this would have certain repercussions within the squad, the addition of a top-quality striker to come in and replace the Belgian is certain to fill the whole dressing room with confidence.

As suggested by The Mirror, United are eyeing up Juventus’ Argentine forward Paulo Dybala as a potential alternative if the Belgian isn’t able to turn his fortunes around. As it does seem unlike that he will, Dybala will be perfect striker for United.

Capable of playing as a lone forward, as a second striker or even on the flanks, his versatility will be very useful to United who also have the same attributes in Marcus Rashford. Alongside the Englishman, Dybala could form a deadly partnership which would help them both achieve their personal goals.

His excellent movement and sharply timed runs will be an asset to United’s attack next season while his ability to finish from anywhere makes him a highly sought-after commodity on the football market today.

As expensive as he could be, United must go all out to try and bring the Argentine to Old Trafford as he has the perfect attributes and skill-set to come in and take over from Lukaku as United’s main goal threat.
