This £55m world-class machine joining Sarri at Chelsea could immediately turn the Blues into title contenders

Why Higuain joining Sarri at Chelsea could take the Blues to new heights

Chelsea have traditionally sacked Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri has arrived at the club. It’s a transfer saga that was going on all summer but it’s finally been put to sleep. It’s honestly harsh to see Conte depart under such circumstances after proving to be one of the Blues’ best managers over the years. The Italian has won consecutive trophies with the club, including the Premier League in his debut season.

But football is football, and anything can happen in the world of football. Sarri comes in with a lot of expectations placed on the manager. His number one objective will be to guide the Blues back into the top-four. The former Napoli coach is going to have to bring in additional players to bolster the squad in order to make a strong impression in his debut season in the Premier League.

The Blues have been linked with Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain over the last few days. Chelsea are reportedly interested in snapping up the former Real Madrid striker, who could be sold by Juventus for around £55m. In a season which saw new signing Alvaro Morata embarrassingly underperform, the club have decided to sign a new striker.

Gonzalo Higuain

Morata was signed from Real Madrid after impressing with the Blancos for a number of years, including his loan spell with Serie A champions Juventus. But the Spanish striker was not able to replicate that form in the Premier League, scoring just 11 goals and providing 6 assists in 31 games. The club have subsequently identified Gonzalo Higuain as the perfect replacement.

Higuain has been one of the top strikers in Europe for a number of years now. He’s a goal-scoring machine who has been performing at a consistent level for a very long time. Higuain made his name as a top striker playing for Real Madrid alongside the famed Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. He scored a total of 107 goals for the Blancos in just 190 appearances before making the move to Serie A in 2016.

The 30-year-old has since gone on to become one of Serie A’s most feared strikers. Higuain’s goalscoring record has got even better with the Italian outfit. He has scored a total of 40 goals in just 73 appearances for the Serie A Champions. Higuain has been one of the club’s driving forces for the last few years, which has seen them win the league title hands down.

The striker made a total of 32 appearances in the league last season, scoring 16 goals and providing 6 assists. He also scored 5 goals in 9 Champions League appearances. He is a brilliant footballer and a deadly finisher in front of goal. Defenders are often intimidated to see his presence on the field.

If Chelsea can pull off the signing, Higuain would be a massive statement from the club. Juventus have already completed the signing of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, which means this could push Higuain down the pecking order.

Blues striker Michy Batshuayi has already returned to the squad after a successful loan spell with Dortmund and with the arrival of Higuain, Chelsea would possess the strength and depth to go on and clinch the title in Sarri’s first season at the club.
