This 25-year-old former Torreira teammate is the perfect man to lead Arsenal into the post-Ramsey era – Emery must get him

Arsenal opinion: Should the Gunners make a move for Dennis Praet?

The additions of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have been absolutely perfect for Arsenal, with the two adjusting to the Premier league perfectly.

The former was never a risky move, especially after his performances in the World Cup but the same cannot be said about the latter.

Arriving from a Ligue 2 side, Guendouzi was the definition of a bargain and a risky move. But it is one that has worked out brilliantly, with the young midfielder playing his fair share of big games for the club.

In fact, in Unai Emery’s opening game, no player impressed more than the 20-year-old and he continued the season likewise.

It’s one of the many reasons why Arsenal need to keep making deals like that, with it the only way they are going to survive. However, the club needs to make sure that they add a reliable replacement for Aaron Ramsey, with the Welshman leaving for Juventus in the summer.

While he is leaving for free, the loss will be a massive one both financially and on the field. Ramsey does leave after all, as Arsenal’s highest scoring midfielder and that alone will hurt the club.

Few midfielders in the Premier League have managed to net as many goals as the Welshman in his tenure at Arsenal. And unless the club replaces him, trouble lies ahead. One man who can help them do that is Dennis Praet, with Football.London linking him with a move to Arsenal.

The 25-year-old made the move to Sampdoria a little over three years ago from RSC Anderlecht. It’s a move that has worked well for both sides, with Praet doing exceptionally well and it’s a move that would do Arsenal well.

Playing alongside Lucas Torreira for the last few years, the 25-year-old Praet has been an all-around midfield giant alongside the Uruguayan. Even this season, without the brilliant Torreira, Praet has been sensational.

He’s strong on the ball, with a boundless work ethic and a passing consistency that will help ease the transition to a life without Ramsey.

Combine that with his versatility to play across the midfield line and even as a defensive midfielder when required, it’s a move that would only help both Arsenal and Dennis Praet.

Conclusion

Dennis Praet is smack in the middle of his best years as a footballer and while he’s a little older than Arsenal would like, the 25-year-old would do very well at the club.

His work ethic and general ability will help make any transition smooth and his contributions will only help the club.
