Fulham Opinion: Ryan Kent would be an excellent signing for the Cottagers

According to the Scottish Sun, Fulham are weighing up a move for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent in the summer.

The same report claims that Scottish giants Rangers are also interested in signing the youngster permanently after an impressive loan spell at Ibrox.

Kent went through a lean patch on his loan spell at Bristol City last season but the 22-year-old has made amends with some fine displays for Rangers under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard this term.

The youngster has accumulated 5 goals and 9 assists from 37 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, attracting attention from other English clubs with his blistering form.

Kent will return to Liverpool in the summer after the end of his loan spell, but given the presence of stalwarts like Sadio Mane and Naby Keita in the ranks at Anfield, it is highly unlikely that the youngster will have a substantial role to play.

Kent, though, won’t be short of potential suitors if the Reds look to loan him out for another season or cash in on him.

Fulham’s interest in Ryan Kent is not surprising, with relegation from the Premier League almost an inevitability for the Cottagers.

Fulham are already 13 points adrift of safety, and with just 7 games left to play, interim manager Scott Parker has a near-impossible task on his hands to keep the club in the top flight.

The Cottagers are likely to reduce their wage bills in the summer should they get relegated and high-profile names like Andre Schurrle, Luciano Vietto, Ryan Sessegnon, Jean Michael Seri and Aleksandar Mitrovic might want to head for the exit door.

To put things into perspective, Ryan Kent would be an ideal signing for Fulham in the summer as the Liverpool man has shown strong signs of excellence on loan at Rangers, and one would expect him to replicate his good run of form in the Championship next term.

The Cottagers can rely on the likes of Neeskens Kebano and Floyd, both of whom are capable of playing out wide, but someone like Kent can bring that X-factor into their attack.

Standing at 5ft.8 inches, Kent doesn’t look like a powerful attacker but he can be extremely deceptive with his lightning pace, combining his sharpness and agility on the ball with his acceleration and dribbling skills to run past defenders.

Essentially a right-footed inverted winger or a wide forward operating down the left, Kent knows exactly how to use his low centre-of-gravity to his advantage, capitalising on his excellent ball control and sound technique to cut inside from the wide areas and link up with his teammates.

He can give the opposition plenty to think about with his subtle movement off the ball and ability to fire accurate shots on goal.

Kent is a player with massive potential and Fulham might have a gem in their hands if they can beat off competition from Rangers to sign the youngster permanently.

It is going to be a long and hard slog for the Cottagers in the Championship next season and having Kent in the ranks would boost their chances of securing promotion back to the top flight.

Fulham raided Liverpool for Lazar Markovic in January and it won’t be a bad idea for them to complete another raid for Ryan Kent in the summer.
